soda retro-ness!
swim apologises if this has already come up in other threads on the subject, but swim wants the people out there to know that old soda stream bottles will work with N2O chargers.
swim wasnt sure this would be the case, but recently swim acquired a very retro soda bottle and once all the liquid inside had been removed, it proved to be a very effective device for removing the lovely N2O from its metallic bullet prison. swim usually uses a whipped cream dispenser for coaxing the N2O from the charger, but given that the soda bottle is a) much quieter and b) smaller, swim will probably be using it instead. best $3 swim has spent in a while... Re: soda retro-ness!
the thing in the picture. its an old school way of making soda before the days when coke and pepsi were as readily available and cheap as they are today

Re: soda retro-ness!
No picture here... It's a shame as Alf would really like to confirm whether "soda bottle" is what he thinks it is, i.e soda siphon. Certain creatures would find this to be a very good news if only soda siphon (aka seltzer bottle) could actually be used to open nitrous chargers. The ones designed for making whipped cream (what are they called? "cream dispensers"?) are godlessly expensive. On the other hand soda siphon can be acquired much cheaper. It could be even possible to find one somewhere in the attic among forgotten junk. N20 cartridges look just like CO2 cartridges as far as my sex-dwarf recalls and I've seen a few references to them made on N20 forum.
Are there creatures really using them and able to confirm 8g nitrous chargers can be safely used with soda siphon? |

Re: soda retro-ness!
Soda Syphons like this one can be used to successfully "crack" nitrous whippets. Snuffkin has come across a couple of problems with using them. Often the rubber seals are perished because of their age. Also it is difficult to fill balloons from them because the outlet nozzle is much smaller than that of a cream dispenser.

Re: soda retro-ness!
the only problems swim has had with soda siphons is that sometimes the cracking space (handle? place where you put the bulb...) is too small. and he has had worries about some... they were glass. he doesn't like the idea of putting compressed liquified gas into a sealed glass container to decompress.
but apart from that they are all good. (also some of them the nozzle is just the right size for a medical mask inlet tube ;-)) |

Re: soda retro-ness!
SWIMs soda siphon is also glass.
It takes larger CO2 canisters, so nitrous chargers dont fit ![]() (they are for carbonating drinks) SWIM doesn't like the idea of adding more than one charger. He has had glass blow up on him before and wouldn't recommend it. |

Re: soda retro-ness!
Now, have a look at this bastard!
Alf can be a very patient creature and being patient paid again. His good buddy moved to a new flat and he's been unpacking his things for months now and claiming all the time that IT must be there somewhere, stashed in one of the cardboard boxes. He was telling the truth, it was really there! Whoa, this thing is BIG, must be 2 litres at the very least. Still lacking some gaskets, so it's not been tested yet, however it appears to be fully functional. Moreover, the glass is protected by a wire netting, so I think it would be safe to unload maybe even 3-4 cartridges into it. And not only that. Alf told me also that the thing is so HEAVY too that the next visitor to his house that will piss him off will have his damn head smashed into very little pieces and the siphon will still remain intact

Re: soda retro-ness!
Those soda bottles, despite being glass, are designed to take pressurized gas, there should be no issue for using them, other then old gaskets and small nozzles.

Re: soda retro-ness!
SWIM has a soda bottle just like yours!!! however swims is missing the topmost screwiny thing....
he realises that it it designed to take high pressure but would you rather be right or keep your right hand in the situation where it does explode? |
