Re: Crack behaviour scares me!
Glad some warning bells seem to go off with this; SWIM has rarely spent time with crack users and would not make a habit out of it. Be careful with that powder though; even if you're not sinking to using it in the super-addicitive crack form, the regular coke could make a junkie out of you as well if you don't have good, long breaks between usage.

Re: Crack behaviour scares me!
SWIM has seen people spend all night crawling on their hands and knees from their living room coffee table to their car, with a flashlight, looking for any specks of rock they may have dropped on their way in.... swim has also seen people walk up and down stairs for hours while smoking. probably the funniest thing in SWIM's opinion is the paranoia. swim once shined a pocket flashlight through a peep hole at a friends apartment....swim's friend and father were in the process of rocking up some powder, and the light scared them so much they threw an eightball into a sink full of dishes and suds. they were fairly upset but SWIM just LOL'ed.

Re: Crack behaviour scares me!
As someone who has just given up crack-cocaine after six years, (13 days straight so far), SWIM pleads with SWIY not to abandon this friend altogether. Fair enough, put yourself first: you don't have to hang with this person whilst they're smoking crack, but if you consider this person a friend I would leave the door open for him. When he hits rock bottom (and he will), your mate will need and appreciate all the friends he can get.
Personally, SWIM has lost many, many friends because of her behaviour on drugs and although she understands and repects their decisions as to why they felt they had to seperate themselves from SWIM, SWIM really appreciates the friends that stuck by her. If you give this person a chance, he might come good in the end and a casual friendship could turn into a really strong, worthwhile friendship. Drug addiction doesn't make you a bad person, just a fucked up one. If you choose to stick by this person, you will need a great deal of patience and resolve. Good Luck. |

Re: Crack behaviour scares me!
Swim and some of his friends have used crack a fair bit and never exhibited behaviour like that. Dont fall for a sample bias, swim strongly believes that the reason that crack users behave differently has nothing to do with an actual difference between crack and powdered cocaine, but rather the fact that crack users tend to be bigger cocaine users (a lot of people start with powder than move to rock, not many people go the other way), and just generally sketchier in the first place (because of cracks stigma, an educated, respectable person is likely to use cocaine, but crack is mainly confined to a seedier sub-culture).

Re: Crack behaviour scares me!
Out of all the many types of drug addicts crackheads can be some of the most frightening.Opiate addicts are generally a peaceful and laid back lot that only resort to violence to prevent sickness and withdrawal.Crack on the other hand seems to cause some very nasty and demented behavior swim has noticed.Oh my once swim accidentally ended up in a crack trailor, this huge guy that looked like something off deliverance walks in.You could just sense violence radiating off this bastard.I mean one look and you know this is the kind that would have no qualms with rape or murder. And the funny thing is first thing he says"My mommy and my daddy was sister and brothers now I'm ready to rock."Swim is not making this up either.Anyways swim is innocently smoking some cannabis while surrounded by people smoking crack stems. So this horrific crackhead hillbilly from hell gets right in swims face and says.."Give me some bud!"So swim does the smart thing and hands him a little bowl hit.He says angrily to swim."Give me some bud you little bitch!"swim hands him half the dime he has,hey swim had no real effective weapon and just didn't feel like being made to "squeal like a piggie"that night.swim demanded the person that took there who was a crackhead to take him home right then and there, but being a crackhead this person wanted to stay but swim finally convinced him with twenty dollars.Scary stuff!Swim does not understand crack, has met a few crack users that are atleast semi decent human beings but generally it seems it is a drug that seems to be surrounded by all kind of degenerate behavior.

Re: Lost crack in the toilet
swim's friend was paranoid from the stuff and thought he was having a heart attack... so swim called him an ambulance eventually, and swim's friend ran to the toilet to PURPOSLY throw the rest down the toilet.
he later decided that the whole episode was just some crazy high and regretted his actions to say the least. heh |

Help for a friend maybe addicted to crack
So, SWIM has this friend who tried coke in the past but never really had a steady supply. SWIMFriends told him that it was a stupid thing to do but he didnt listen. This friend of SWIM eventually started smoking a lot of crack, spending all of the money he could scour up in a day. Eventually this friend of SWIM ran out of his own money and stole 200$ from his parents, this isnt far out of the ordinary for him but it was a lot that time. SWIMFriends continued to warn him he was going to go to jail or die or something but he still didn't listen. After a week or so of heavy using this friend of SWIM stole a lot of money from SWIM and his friends and parents. SWIM hasnt seen him since because he was kicked out of SWIMFriends house for stealing.
So, SWIM is hoping to find SWIY who has some ideas on how SWIM can stop this friend from ruining his life. This friend of SWIM has a very addictive personality and wont be able to stop on his own. SWIM doesnt want to narc but hes leaving for college soon and doesn't want his old friend to end up in jail or dead. Anything will help SWIM. SWIM believes in making your own choices in life but he cant stand by with his friends choice this time. |

Re: Help For A Friend
This is a very tough subject. You can't help someone who doesnt want to be helped. It is a sad thing but this friend will probably use until he gets arrested and faces felony charges. People do that intermission stuff, but I don't think that really works. All one can do is not be an enabler and hope things turn around. Who would SWIM narc to? It seems everyone probably knows said person has a problem, and if it is the police, they probably won't/can't do anything till he is caught on the streets using/buying/selling/carrying. Maybe another person has better advice for SWIY, but think that nothing will change till said person realizes it is a problem and wants to do something about it. Maybe said person will change after he loses his friends/family/loved ones and possibly his freedom. c'est la vie.

Re: Help For A Friend
im lost for words . have you tried giving him an incentive ??
addictive personalities are tough to handle ... explain the state they appear to be in to others , this helped with one of my speed adddicted friends who realised everyone thought she was terrible and she stopped . Tell them theyre killing themselves in a horrible way and theyll end up alone or dead . Though , death probably wont bother someone at this point . Sorry to hear , mate . |

Re: Help For A Friend
SWIM has recently been exposed to my friend that always only partied in moderation try crack as well and it is scarring them to death. The substance takes over and dictates behavior they could never imagine. The next week, friend will always have regret for his actions and realize what he did or said was out of his control. The friend keeps chasing the high and never wants the party to stop. Friend always promises they will only do xxx amount, or leave at a certain time, and it never happens. The friend has missed work and spent money they don't have. Last time when the friend ran around house searching and not beliving SWIM did not have any more was very scary and left a horrible memory. SWIM feels lucky that it did not escalate and their own personal safety was not compromised. SWIM has tried to offer support and concern only to be ignored.

Re: Help For A Friend
there is nothing much you can do for these friends . if they dont want to give it up , they simply will not . I've been there myself , although not this bad , but if you dont really want to quit , you won't .
Drugs with addictive properties should never be given to those with addictive personalities . ADDICTIVE DRUG + ADDICTIVE PERSONALITY = DOWNWARD SPIRAL . |

Re: Help For A Friend
Swim thanks you for at least trying to help, Swimfriends arn't as forgiving as SWIM and just want to jump the user and try and beat it out of him. As for this friend, he would even get angry if he couldn't find bud and he already has a felony so its pretty vital that Swim straightens this out. Swim again thanks you.

Re: The Crack-user Behaviour and Attitudes Thread
Everytime if you take that first hit its like you want more everyone knows that. SWIM always says just one little hit but that ends up in at least 5 or 6 more and than the trouble begins. Wanting more, scraping the pipe a dozen times for a hit. Crawling on the floor looking for crumbs wich are never there. But mostly SWIM cant control her self and buys more and than the rituel repeats its self until swim has enough. Some strange reason SWIM always get tired after smoking 2 or 3 hours straight. SWIm takes a long rest and than so stop smoking until she feels she need it again. Sometimes the next day but sometimes a week or month, and never if she has important things to do the next day.
