Re: Iboga seminar in France: 3 persons subject to investigation

I don't really know french, but I think I understood most of the text. Correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't really give any details about how it happened.

Seems very unlikely that ibogaine on its own is the cause.

Re: Iboga seminar in France: 3 persons subject to investigation

it is reported as an "iboga overdose".
The group hosting these meetings is called Meyaya, they have a website in english but swim's not sure it would be within the rules to post this URL.
their email is meyaya@iboga.org if you would care to contact them to get more info on what happened.

update on the french iboga-healing-session related death.

Some new information on the supposed iboga related death which happened a few months ago, in an article published in the major french newspaper Le Monde today. The main news being that the death, which occured during an iboga healing session / rehab therapy focusing on opiate addiction, is most likely due to a lethal combination of iboga and other plants and the methadone and alcohol that the 27 year old victim had taken on the same day of the healing session. A Gabonese healer is held in prison, though he was not present during the healing session, and charges are still undefined.

Other news is that this is a good political spark for a pan-european iboga banning campaign...

Here is the article, in french, from Le Monde's 27 February edition.

------

Re: update on the french iboga-healing-session related death.

In related news, alcohol consumption alone killed someone under 40 last week.

I saw a Learning/Descovery Channel docu-drama called, "Going tribal" or something to that effect that followed a guy who took Ibogaine in a setting in a tribal village. He did loads of throwing up and dancing. It reminded me of when I got food poisoning and was dilusional for days.

Thumbs down Iboga is now illegal in france

Since the 25th of March, Iboga is illegal in France. That comes after the seminar ban (http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27673).
It is a sad day for the drug addiction study.

I hope they don't exclude its use in controlled clinical trials - I couldn't read the article in french (my french is bit sloppy) but if thats the case then it would be very sad indeed.

when a substance is banned in france it gets very difficult to get funding for any research on the subject...but swim doesn't think there were any french controlled clinical trials to begin with, this is france we're talking about after all...
now a subutex traffic was just dismantled today (involving doctors and pharmacists), good fuel for those wanting to ban this substance, and methadone while they're at it...

Re: Iboga is now illegal in france

It's rather interesting to note that the original use of Iboga was found in the former French colony of Gabon. I hope the French don't try to go play Algeria again.

Re: Iboga is now illegal in france

This is a horrible evolution.
Guess the government didn't like it that so little money can be made off Iboga, since it doesn't need to be produced in a lab.
They motivate their decision by saying one person died?

Swim is also bothered by the Iboga deaths, but if SWIY looks at the doses people take, really, Swim thinks the doses are way too high. African ritual use is different from giving Iboga to someone who's already taking loads of drugs. Swim isn't all that smart, but it is still a MAOI and a stimulant.

Does SWIYTrebor still need some help translating a few words? PM SWIM if SWIY does.

French is SWIM's second language (English = third). Swim knows this is an English-only forum, so she'll translate what she stated above. It means: nice thinking, but Someone Who isn't Me doesn't believe it.
