From MS Contin to Codeine

SWIM has been taking large quantities of MS Contin (between 350mg -650mg per day) and has built up a tolerance. If SWIM was to take codeine how much would SWIY recommend SWIM takes? SWIM has not used codeine before.

Swim believes that with the phenomenal tolerance you have obviously built up, there is no safe level of codeine that you could take to give you any significant pain relief or subjective effects. The ceiling dose for codeine is around 400 to 500mg. After this, the liver cannot convert any more to morphine (which is obviously active, whereas codeine isn't) regardless of tolerance. Taking more is useless and dangerous.

400mg of codeine is roughly equivalent to 40mg of morphine depending on your metabolism, so Swim doesn't think you'll get much use out of codeine at all, sorry to say!

Agreed. SWIM would have to eat (and metabolize) a steamer-trunk of codeine. If this is for medical purposes - I hope - about the only way SWIM could go would be Fentanyl lollypops for breakthrough pain. Ouch!

LoL swiy would need to have cancer, or be on their death bed and in severe pain to get a doctor to prescribe it to swiy... so good luck

Ouch, just thinking about withdrawls from that kind of tolorance would feel and it almost brings swip to tears, dealing with his own 80mg/day oxy withdrawls as he weans himself down.
