Correct. The internet was developed to maintain communications in the event of a nuclear war. The airbursts of atomic weapons would set off an electromagnetic pulse that would cripple entire regions and negate the use of everything from telephones to elevators. The internet used a system of nodes to relay data from point A to point B via point X if everything else was toast. In other words, you need to find out if Washington still exists. You are in New Jersey. Most of New Jersey is gone. So you can relay your message to Washington via New Mexico and bounce it off Ohio to reach Washington.

Au contraire!
The internet was actually created as a means of sharing documents between academic institutions.

Ah well. That link doesn't really bother me. Porn/no porn who cares when you got such a wealth of worthwhile information out there...

Yeah but you see, it starts with the obvious and works it's way down to the ridiculous. This isn't about keeping children from porn. It's about our freedom to do what we want. Shit like this gets passed all the time for "the sake of the children" when it's really some uptight asshole(S) wanting everyone to conform to his beliefs, religion and frame of mind. It starts out with porn and ends up with all kinds of "not socially acceptable" subject matter.

Filters work and they should be used. Even more important and effective is the parents. Education also does wonders. When you take something away from kids they are more inclined to find a way around it.

Re: Child Online Protection Act struck down.

This is a very good decision for the internet in general. The tide has been going in the opposite direction for far too long. I mean, while the law was specifically targetted at pornography, it was worded as "socially unacceptable for children". That could have been just as easily applied to this site(though I realize people under 18 aren't allowed here anyway) or erowid, or wikipedia page on drugs.

Re: Child Online Protection Act struck down.

You must remember, regards masturbating to porn, that those who would "save the children" by locking up their parents for looking at porn would also threaten the children with eternal damnation and have them flogged for touching their wee-wee's or woo-woo's.

It's all about societal control. These wing~nuts want to own everyone's penis or vagina.
