Is Codeine Available...

over the counter in the USA, or other countries? In Canada it is available otc as a #1, 8 mg codeine, 15 mg caffeine, 300 mg acetaminophen. I won't hazard to guess how many livers have been fried by those liking the codeine, but not having the sense, or knowledge to understand the risks of taking it excessively and in high doses. Scary stuff, IMHO.

I wonder if it is, if anyone's friend may have tried to CWE it, and how successful they were in the process?

No, it's not available OTC in the USA. Yes, many people including swip have done CWE on the canadian codeine tabs, and yes the CWE works well.

I know people who are doing the tabs/capsules strt up , for real pain, and wayyy too many of them. I wasn't really even familiar with CWE until I found this forum...it may just save someone their life.

Definatel could. Swip highly recomends to anybody who uses pain pills, even in moderation regularly, to do a cold water extraction on their pills. acetominophin in high doses, or even regularly doses used often, can be very harmful on swiy's liver and kidneys.

Spread the word, and save some lives.

The problem with the CWE and these tablets is 3-fold: 1. Low yield of codeine for those with a tolerance. 2. CWE won't get all the acetaminophen out. 3. CWE leaves the caffeine in solution.

They are good little painkillers if taken as intended. They also killed a friend of mine's sister. Be mighty careful, SWIMs.

Nag, just how much para/acet does it actually leave behind? If performed accurately and filtered through lab-grade filters, that is.

Just wondered if you've heard of anyone (intelligent) quoting results of extractions.

EDIT: CWE really isn't hard. Above you'll see a search button. Click it, then type in CWE and you'll be transported to another world where the rules of physics are turned upside down, and everyone speaks russian....

According to something posted on a CWE website, at 21c (room temp) the solubility of APAP in water is 1g in 150mL. On top of this the merck index says "Very slightly sol in cold water, considerably more sol in hot water." While someone I know deffinitly noticed decreased potency from extracted pills, the amount of apap that gets through would be less than 2 extra strength tylenols (probably much less)...and that would assume one is using a lot of water.

Although, with bad filtering, a lot of APAP could bypass the filter....creating a problem.

The solubility of Codeine as opposed to Acetaminophen (Paracetamol/Tylenol/APAP/Whatever You Call It) is considerably greater in colder water.

While I don't know the figures (and, tbh, they're not hugely important) I would say that approx 5 degrees Centigrade would be the optimum temperature to keep your solution at before filtering, but this belongs in a thread about CWE.

Codeine is available upto 8mg per tablet OTC in the UK, by the way. I believe it's 12.8mg in the US, but I may be wrong.

dark I think you will find that 12.5mg is/was the maximum amount codine in a OTC med, migralive ? or somthing along those lines.

Yes, codeine is available over the counter in Ireland in the form of Nurofen Plus.....CWE is needed to remove ibuprofen .

About Canada, codeine is available with aspirin and codeine (and, yuck, caffeine) in bottle up to 200-- not just acetimenophen. It;s cpmmonly known as Ac&c. Get the generic brand, much cheaper.

Unless something has changed in the past year, low dose codeine products are actually federally scheduled class 5 in the US. So, depending on whether the state one lives in has decided to upschedule them or not, a pharmacist could choose to sell you a codeine/promethazine cough syrup, for example.
