Moldy cannabis anecdote--Swim's story

Swim knows people often ask about moldy weed on here, and wanted to share a story. NOTE: Swim does NOT recommend anybody smoke moldy weed! It is hazardous to one's health. Swim's tale is provided for illustrative use only.

In this story, swim obtained an ounce of fresh green five months ago. Unfortunately the source had apparently not adequately dried the herb.

Swim left the green in a plastic baggie in a dark drawer for a week. When swim checked on it, there were a few white patches and light fuzz that had appeared on the weed. The smart thing would have been to throw this stuff away or maybe sautee it into oil, but swim decided to take a stab at salvaging this O that was going bad.

Swim scraped off and cut off as much of the mold as could be seen visually on the buds. Swim then broke the remaining weed into smaller chunks, put them in separate ziploc bags, and threw them in the back of the freezer.

Swim noticed the development of the mold was completely arrested by freezing the weed. Swim had to be a little careful as the weed was removed from the freezer and smoked--there were still occasional small moldy bits that had to be pinched off and thrown away. But by and large swim was able to salvage almost all of the weed.

Swim does not recommend you do what swim did, but swim wanted to share.

Re: Moldy weed anecdote--Swim's story

SWIM once found a plant and completely screwed up the drying process. The weed was still smokable but after 2weeks it had gone pretty dirty and he ended just throwing it anyway. Next time, he will go through the drying process accordngly.

Re: Moldy weed anecdote--Swim's story

Whenever SWIMs weed got moldy from not drying it properly he smoked it anyway!
Potency seems slightly decreased, the smoke tastes a lot worse and seems
a bit harsher on the throat.

There are many many different molds, and some can be rather poisonous to
the human being! So maybe SWIM just got lucky, maybe the mold gets
destroyed by the heat, SWIM doesn't know.

Yeah, I guess it's a dumb thing to smoke moldy weed, but then again, it
seems like a damn shame to throw it away either.

Beware though, if the mold is BLACK stay clear, as I heard those can be really
hazardous to the health.

The freezer will not keep mold from growing or developing. Best thing to do was throw the stuff away.

Also combustion does not degrade all microbiological toxins either.

Re: Moldy weed anecdote--Swim's story

Toxic substances generated by the mold isnt completely destroyed by the flame as one might think, It is the same reason that THC isnt all burned by the flame to dusts, enough goes for one for a high, toxin also left enough for one for an ill.

Also, although, heat might destroy the living fungi (even assume ALL fungi, which isnt feasible), SPORES do have a lot of resistance...

Re: Moldy weed anecdote--Swim's story

Moldy weed is always a sad situation.

Once when a friend of mine had some, he left it spread out under a light bulb for a day (it was around an inch from the the light), then froze it for a week. It tasted stale, but did its trick in the end.

Re: Moldy weed anecdote--Swim's story

I'd just throw it away. It'd be sad...but not worth getting sick imo.
