Can an adderall xr capsule effectively be split?

Hey guys,

Let me clarify my question so that you are not scratching your noggin'. If someone has a 20mg capsule and wants to reduce it to two 10mg doses will breaking the capsule and dividng the pellets into two piles have that effect? I know adderall is time released but Im not exactly sure whether each pellet has a designated dosage that is time released or if there is some other mechanism at work. If one would to take half the pellets and eat them, would that effectively by a 10mg adderall xr dose?

no the beads inside the capsule all look identical but some release instantly and others take time to be absorbed into your system.

if SWIY ground up the pellets, and divided the resulting powder into roughly 2 equal amounts, you should have 2 ~10mg, instant release piles of adderal

You could divide the pellets into two piles, you should get roughly 10mg on each side, with a theoretically close to equal number of time release and instant release balls. However, it could be 6.5mg now, and 3.5 later, or 1mg now and 9mg later, or some other split. Chances are it should be fairly even though (There are a helluva lot of balls in a 10mg capsule).

Thats the easiest way to accomplish turning a 20mg XR into 2 "10mg XRs".

Good to know, thanks for the info. How long does it take for adderall to kick in if you just swallow a capsule?

Statistically speaking SWIY should just be able to divide the pile of beads. Its like flipping a coin 10 times. Probability tells us that we'll get heads 5 times and tails 5 times, but in practice you might end up with a ratio of mg1/mg2 that is far off from =1. The safest bet would be, as suggested already, dividing the powder from the beads into separate piles.
