I've taken anywhere from 150mg of Diphenhydramine to 875mg (yes, I did. Stupid? Oh yeah).
And I just have to say... Do not ever do this. This is possibly the worst experience I've ever had, apart from taking 28 tylenol to kill myself and instead throwing up all night and then getting admitted to a psych ward. That is the only thing worse than a night tripping on Benadryl. Initially, the hallucinations is what drives the people that it does to take Benadryl. That is the reason I tried it in the first place. However, the hundreds of times that I took Benadryl, I didn't hallucinate once. Not even at 875mg. You will read many reports about the hallucinatory effects that people felt while high on this drug...most of them are anomalies. Notice you can only find a few hundred reports online. But can you imagine how many people have tried this and either hated it so much that they didn't want to ever talk about it again (like me) or were just so disappointed that they didn't even feel the need to revisit the experience. And anyway, the anomalies that I mentioned...they only really experience a few hallucinations, and if you'll notice...they freak the user out, every single time. It's just not pleasant. Don't waste your time or thoughts. Please. |

Re: The Diphenhydramine Experience Thread: Please Post Experiences Here
swim mixed dxm with diph. the other night and this is how it went...
swim weighs 195 lbs. dosed- 600mg of diph., and 360mg of dxm, 200mg of caffine, all at once :45 - feeling warm, and feeling the body high from the dex 1:20- very hard to talk. Speech is seriously impaired. Feel like tongue is swollen, which makes it very hard to pronounce certain words. Feel kinda retarded 1:45- seeing gnat like things flying around, and also saw a couple spiders while using the bathroom. Feeling very uncoordinated. 2:30- left friends house. swims GF is driving. This is where the first CRAZY hallucination occured. Swim and his GF were driving, and all of the sudden swim said " LOOKOUT!!"..... " your gonna hit that boat!!". His GF hit the brakes, then looked at him and said " what boat!??". swim turned his eyes back to the street, and there was no boat. He hallucinated a truck with a boat on a trailer backing into a driveway. At that point swims GF said " your really starting to scare me ". They make it home. 3:30 +- Swim is a little groggy, and goes into the bathroom to take a piss. He sees the toilet seat covered with tiny bugs. He uses the bathroom and then procedes back to the bedroom where he passes out. overall swim is a little intrigued, and will try a higher dose without dxm this time. As stated before, the hallucinations seen are very real looking, unlike on shrooms or lsd. |

SWIM does not know the answer for why some people seem to hallucinate similar types of things on one drug vs. another, but he has heard of the phenomenon. His best guess is that the drugs are triggering something in the sensory cortices that would normally fire when they detect certain classes of objects, and the rest of the brain interprets this as the objects really being there. For parts of the visual cortex, different cells will fire in response ONLY lines oriented at specific angles. Four of these cells firing at once would produce the recognition of a parallelogram. Perhaps the "universal" or widespread hallucinations caused by some drugs is a higher-level elaboration on this.
Alternately perhaps it could be manifesting by triggering memories, like how some people theorize dreams operate. Maybe memories or cognitive schema of "children" or "gelatin" are stored in a relatively specific place in the brain that has not been found yet, and activity here would produce the sight or belief that a child or a large gelatin blob is in SWIYs room. This is probably a topic worthy of a new thread, as SWIM finds it quite interesting and would love to learn more. BTW, please be careful with diphenhydramine. Most people who do it find it very unpleasant. Even if SWIY can remember that the sights arent real, the experience can have a unique dysphoria (as opposed to the euphoria of more popular drugs), and a sense of boredom and wishing it was over. |

Wow, that was an extremely informative post! SWIM also finds it a fascinating subject. Should SWIM post it in the "euphoric mind" section? It be interesting to hear comparative stories and other theories. And SWIM will be careful, she feels like she can learn something from this and plans to do so in the safest way possible. She's carefully planning the trip before hand and plans to have a sitter as well. She's well versed on the many negative accounts that are common with diphenhydramine, if she has any inkling that she isn't in the right mental state, she'll back out pronto.
Also, for the hallucinations to occur, would SWIM have to be somewhere without much light for them to happen, or do they appear in daylight as well? Thanks a bunch |

Yes, "the euphoric mind" would be a great place for it to go. People would have some great theories I'm sure, especially regarding ibogaine, DMT, and some other drugs like that.
Seems like the hallucinations from diphenhydramine occur best in ill-lit areas, but SWIM has watched lab rats who ingested during the daytime, and were describing cobwebs and ceilings turning into the ocean, when clearly, this was not really the case. A sitter is a good idea, they may be able to help swiy sort out who is really there and who isnt. |

SWIM thought that Diphenhydramine was more potent that dimenhydrinate. 600mgs of diphenhydramine is considered an very heavy dose by erowid, while 200mgs-300mgs is considered common. Don't take 1200mgs of Diphenanything! That would likely result in a horrible trip and possible hospitalization. 500mgs of diphenhydramine is considered a lethal dose in rats.
However, there's not a dose chart on dramamine(dimenhydrinate) but I think 250mgs dose of diphenhydramine is equal to about 500mgs dose of dimenhydrinate. Confusing huh? Be careful about dosage though! Deaths have been reported from dramamine tripping. |

As told by SWIM to Female to recite.
Diphenhydramine trip report. "12:15. Ingested 250mgs of Diphenhydramine (Simply Sleep and Unisom). 12:35. Notice I'm staring off into space a lot, even if I'm "concentrating". 1:00. Something a' lurking. 1:11. Consumed one more 25mg pill. My visual perception is on the verge of changing and I feel drowsy. Placebo hallucinations out of the corner of my eye (pysching myself up, need to stop that). Wrote a note to myself saying "Remember, whatever happens you're safe,it's not real" on a piece of paper and taped it to my ceiling(have a bunk bed) to remind me of comfort. Perhapes I should tape it to my chest. 1:30 Very, drowsy. Beginnings of cottommouth, hard to concentrate on staying awake.Looking for comfort set music on computer. Weird how the tired and weak feeling hits so strong in matter of mere minutes, also beginning the heavy body period. Have some kava kava next to me to take if I start going all wiggy. Just saw an imaginary bug on my screen...or something that was small. quick and moved dartingly like a bug. My throat feels a little closed up, so breathing is more shallow than normal. 1:30am to 8am. Spent the rest of the night expecting something, but all I got was heavy eyelids. I felt sort of paranoid, but I think that we because I was psyching myself out. I saw no hallucinations. The bug thing I mentioned earlier was placebo, I'm sure of it. This might be because the dosage was too small, next time I'll up it to 325mgs. I kept my room light on as well, so the light might have dumbed the hallucinations down. Pretty dissapointing, but I'm going to make a note of it and try again. Conclusion: Over all, I'm glad I started with a smaller dosage, to get the feel. I had no idea what to expect so I was nervous, but now I'm not. I'm confident I can remain collected next time I venture furthur with this drug." |

Re: Diphenhydramine
Third time:
Start: 11:59PM. Downed 12 pink pills, two blue pills. Diphenhydramine, 12 Benadryl 2 Simply Sleep. One more Benadryl 25mg on reserve. Each pill was 25mgs each, making 350mgs. Expected start time. 30minutes=Drowsy 2hrs=Hallucinations. Let's see! Preparations: One full day of solitary recovery allowed. (Tomorrow) Candles(SWIM feels paranoid of the absolute darkness while on Diphenhydramine. Hard for her to walk down the hall to the bathroom.) She will slowly blow out the candles, one by one, as she feels more comfortable. Playlist of soothing, comfortable music. Curtains drawn so she wont be freaked by her reflection. (Happened first time). Plenty of water to treat cotton mouth. Fun, uplifting movies to cheer her spirit if she's feeling scared. One notepad and one pen. One paper taped to her bed post saying "Don't worry, whatever you see is not real, you are SAFE." One bed. Kava Kava and Holy Basil(Good for grounding her if she feels depersonalized) One sound(ish ^-^) mind. Comfortable atmosphere Confidence. End result: Well, the trip didn't go as well as expected. SWIM got no visuals, though her arms did look kind of red and like they were swelling. Is this normal for diphenhydramine trips? The only thing close to visuals that she got was when she was sitting in her bed, staring, about 2 and a half hours into the trip she would close her eyes because she was terribly tired and immediately was transported into a dream with her eyes closed. The dream was realistic but when she opened her eyes again she was able to distinguish that this was a dream, and she wasn't responding to anything that happened in the dream. That's it though..SWIM had a dosage of 375mgs, time to boost it up a bit. SWIM slept until 3pm the next day. Time frame for trip:SWIM was only able to stay awake for 3 hours, from midnight to 3am. |

Hey. I'd just like to say I'm new to this site and shall be posting frequently in the Deleriant Antihistamines forums.
So anyway, the question. SWIM ingested 400mg of Diphenhydramine (In the form of sleeping tablets) at around 9.30 last night. He felt the effects really kicking in at around 23.30. Unfortunately, last night was horrifying for SWIM. The poor bugger couldn't move without first having a firm hold on a wall or similar object. After 45 minutes of trying, SWIM eventually made it across the hallway to the bathroom. Upon returning to his room, SWIM turned the light on to try and see if he could get some visuals. He tried for quite some time, unsuccessfully, and in the end, gave up and attempted to get some sleep. BAD IDEA! SWIM constantly woke up throughout the night. He noticed a significant blurring of the dream/reality boundary. SWIM knows this wasn't delerium whilst awake, but rather an intense period of lucid dreaming. SWIM has taken 400mg once before, and 350mg twice before, all yielding much better results while awake, yet still allowing him to get a good night's sleep. SWIM naturally finds most Diphenhydramine experiences quite disturbing most of the time, yet is one of a small minority who enjoy this state of mental confusion. SWIM'S quick question: Can somebody describe, in as much detail as possible, an experience in the 200-300mg dose range. Sorry about the length of this post, I just noticed.... Eek! ![]() Anyhoo... SWIM'S off to have some fun....

Here's swim's accounts for swidark_globe's enjoyment..nothing interested happened to her, but she's planning on upping the dosage to between 400mgs and 475mgs next time..

Re: Diphenhydramine - One way ticket to hell and back...
Strong amounts of diphenhydramine will leave one dry as a bone, jumpy, agitated, and beyond reason.
Fun once or twice - just for the experience - but be certain to have a sober friend around. It's certainly not meant for long-term enjoyment. ECL |

The All Dancing Diphenhydramine Experience Thread - Please Post SWiY Experiences Here
I have been a long time user of this site but just recently (Today) joined the site. I have a few questions regarding diphenhydrinate (Specifically Motion Sickness Pills) that I have not been able to answer by searching the forum.
SWIM decided that after reading on a website that motion sickness pills could be ingested and cause hallucinations, he would try it out. Well, SWIM found a bottle of offbrand (Equate) motion sickness pills lying around his friends house. His friend's parents were asleep and so was his friend. He read up on the pills a little bit and about their effects and decided "Why not?" SWIM decided he would start with a small dose of 10 pills (50mg of diphenhydrinate in each pill (total of 500mg)) and would wait and see what happened. About 30 minutes after ingesting the pills, SWIM noticed a slighty wierd feeling starting to go through him. About 10 minutes later he recieved a message on Myspace from his g/f and while trying to type back to her, he would completely forget what he was doing, where he was at, and would read random words he had typed on the screen. After an hour, he started hearing people saying his name. He would turn around and no one would be there. He thought this was pretty cool. Over the next few minutes he began noticing a slight eye twitch. Peripheral vision became really wierd for him and he could only see white from the sides of his eyes. After an hour and 10 minutes, he started to "see" people who weren't there. Swim says he saw his friends, and people he worked with, but didn't talk to any of them. He tells me that when he tried to walk, it was as if he was drunk. He couldn't walk straight without concentrating really hard. He says he also had a problem to where he couldn't sit still at all. He was extremely restless. He could sit and read something for maybe a minute before he had to stand up and literally shake all over before the restlessness would stop. He then decided since it was 3:30AM he would try and get some sleep. This didn't help much. SWIM would wake up every 5 minutes or so shaking like he did to get rid of the restlessness. After about an hour of this, SWIM finally was able to sleep and woke up the next morning with a slight headache. Ever since then he has been fine. Just a little "slow" and tired the next day. What SWIM is wanting to know is how can he achieve these effects again. He has tried waiting 2 days and taking 13 and only became VERY drowsy with no hallucinations. SWIM has tried this about 4 times to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions for him? Thanks -Matt |

Re: Diphenhydrinate Dosage & Trip Report
I talked to SWIM today and he told me about his dosage he decided to take on Friday night. I told SWIM your guy's advice and he considered it and still went through with the trip.
SWIM didn't have a sitter and knew he wouldn't need one. SWIM decided he would ingest 20 Motion Sickness Pills (Same brand from before) each containing 50mg each of Diphenhydrinate at 2:30AM Friday night. After 45 minutes, SWIM got that same wierd feeling in hsi head again. After an hour, he says he started to feel drunk. The time was around 3:45AM and SWIM thought that if he took more pills, he would be able to possibly hallucinate. So SWIM grabbed his bottle and took 10 more. The total dosage in his body at that time was 1500mg. Over 3 times what he has ever consumed. He layed back down in bed and waited to see what would happen. SWIM reported that he would notice at certain times he would "pass out" or fall asleep without remembering to wake up again realizing he was still tripping really hard on the pills. SWIM says he finally fell asleep and woke up the enxt morning around 11AM still feeling the effects. He had trouble walking, and trouble speaking clearly. He knew what he wanted to say but couldn't get it out in complete sentences. Other than that, SWIM reports everything was fine. He hasn't had any pains in his body or anything. No headaches either. SWIM has told me that is going to be the last time he uses Diphenhydrinate for a while though. He says he may try it again in a few months. -Matt |

The All Dancing Diphenhydramine Experience Thread - Please Post SWiY Experiences Here
SWIM told me about his trip last weekend. It was his first time with this particular substance and after spending many a night researching here and there, he decided it was time for his own little experiment. He knew to test the waters first as he really didn't feel like over-doing it his first time. It was a sunday night ahe SWIM was fairly happy, in one of those easily amused moods. The only 'drug' in his body was a fair bit of caffeine from the coffee's he drank earlier. He ingested 6 gelcaps, generic with 50mg of diphenhydramine in each. He sat down and watched some darts to pass the time.
+1.30 and SWIM was feeling something, along the lines of that tired feeling when you've drunk quite a bit. His movements were slow and going to the toilet every 20 minutes was tiresome. +2.00 The walls began their wave-like movement and it was fun to watch. He felt pretty extreme body-load but didn't mind. Still not feeling sleepy and he was quite confused about that. He couldn't think clearly for more than a minute or two at a time. +2.30 Trails formed even with very slight head movement. CEV on par with when you press your eyes to see the pretty colours (hehe). He was feeling great and had a smile on his face. This feeling lasted quite a while, maybe an hour or so but he did not remember to check the time often. +4.00 He did not think fast enough and jumped out of bed to go to the loo. EXTREME nausea took over his body and it took every ounce of strength he had to keep him from vomiting everywhere. After the 10 minute crawl to the bathroom to pee he went back to his room and curled up on the floor. This helped but the nausea stuck with him for quite some time ! He had abandoned keeping his eyes open because even though SWIM has never been travel sick or experienced any sickness of the like, he felt very nauseous when staring at something that would not stay still. +6.00 No way SWIM can get to sleep in the near future as he felt so dreadful. Vomit would probably help, but he could not force himself to doing that. Water has been sipped, crackers have been eaten but nothing really helped SWIM. +7.00 ? SWIM must have dropped off to sleep sometime and woke up still feeling like sh*t. Nausea persisted throughout the day and he had that feeling y'know like after you've been sick and you feel very weak and empty. He had a very light lunch and went back to bed. The next day SWIM felt quite a bit better On the whole, the first 4 hours were entertaining, but the nausea was immense. SWIM was not expecting this from such a dose and it surprised him. He had not begun on a full stomach or anything so i guess it was just his fault for jolting his body too quickly. With a little recovery period SWIM may go ahead and try this again but who knows eh. Thank you for reading

SWIM has a perfectly good setting, no car to do anything stupid with, and a bed right nearby. SWIM pills contain no acetominphen or any other bullshit. SWIM has, of course, beeen following the arguement over the safety of DXM and some other deleriants/hallucinogens. SWIM has no current intention of using this product more then once(at this time) but would merely like to experience what a true hallucination is. SWIM just wants to make sure that if he takes in about a 250mg dose, that there is no threat of Onley lesions or any bullshit neurotoxicty. SWIM will be ingesting at about 11pm Eastern USA time if he gets a nod or go ahead from any of you guys. He will also use this thread to report his experiences.
Day so far: Ergolean AMP injested at 2.00 30 minutes of running 2 hours at the gym Currently it is 5.45pm eastern SMIM may take two more AMP because he is a little pit pooped and its a saturday night at college. |

Re: Diphenhrydramine Safety Q and Report to begin tonight
Does SWIY have someone to take care of them while they are experiencing delerium? There is a great risk of harming one's self or others and it's very irresponsible to undertake such without a trip sitter present.

T minus 3 hours- SWIM injessts two more AMP against his better judgement. His rationale is that he doesnt want to fall asleep as soon as he touches the DiH. It should also be noted that SWIM is taking Piracetum, which is known to lower tolerance to a range of hallucinogens and pyschadelics. Can anyone that has taken piracetum had experience with this or related substances, and will it affect his doseage. SWIM also wants to know if DiH affects blood pressure or anything and he figures it will lower pulserate, true?
T minus 40 minutes- plethora of antioxidants injested(chocolate included....hehe) and piracetum dose taken T equals zero. 250mg ingested. Gelcaps. Took B vitamin complex as well and a 5-htp for mood. Will report back soon or when he redoses. T plus 20 minutes-100mg more taken. No effects thus far. Maybe a little heavy, but doesnt seem to be more then placebo at this point. Can SWIM take a ibruprofen due to a small headache? T plus 1 hour (midnight) SWIM dosed up to 500mg 250+100+50+100 over an hour. So far, SWIM feels very slightly "drunk" just a small pulling feeling on the back of his head. Was outside playing football in the cold w/400 in the system. He felt great at the time, nothing noticable. SWIM now feels it increasing as he sits here. Nothing visual at all. So far feels like alcohol. Last edited by Micklemouse; 07-03-2007 at 10:01. |

Re: Diphenhrydramine Safety Q and Report to begin tonight
So....SWIM found typing to be impossible and couldn't update realtime. SWIM ended up staying up until 5am. SWIM found that this drug hit fast despite the delayed dosing. This was because SWIM just felt slightly drunk in a well-lit room, but when he moved into a dark room he instantly began hallucinating like mad. SWIM kept seeing people, kept feeling like his roommate was waking up and talking to him, and SWIM knows that at some points he was talking out loud to noone. SWIM found a white piece of paper in the dark rooms and noticeed it had hairs growing on it, almost like roots of some fungi, these were blowing in a non-existant wind. SWIM glanced over at the white wall, and this too was covered in hairlike growth, but faded in front of SWIM's eyes. The walls were acting strange, like they were "breathing" or had a heartbeat. SWIM went into the restroom and saw a cloud of minature "gnats" flying around, but as he passed his hand through the cloud, they disapeared. Many odd things happened to SWIM that night, he found true visual hallucinations to be uite odd and can see how in the wrong setting this could be the most horrifying drug out there. SWIM agrees that there is no euphoria, so that the potential for abuse is low. Although SWIM did not dislike his experience, he will probably not use this drug again (the remainder is stored away though) SWIM thinks that if you want to use this drug he is not going to tell you to stay away at all costs, but to keep in mind that these hallucinations are VERY REAL and this could lead to some bad situations. SWIM could not type or talk very well the entire time after it really kicked in. His voice sounded very loud and his mouth was so dry his tongue could barely work. The day after this SWIM didn't have any really bad effects, but SWIM felt dirty. Although SWIM has used meds off label, he'd never used so high over the recommended 50-100mg range. Although there doesn't seem to be any information showing that this drug harms your brain, he feels like it couldnt have been doing any good because, damn, those hallucinations were crazy and could only be caused by your brain be seriously messed up. SWIM wonders if anyone else had noticed that the hallucinations seemed only to occur in a dim or dark setting. It was almost like his brain was filling in the gaps and then going beyond them. SWIM also must note that he thinks he carried on a conversation with some of his hallucinations or possibly his roomate really did get up at some point in time, he has no idea, and thus seems to be the nature of this drug.

Re: Diphenhrydramine Safety Q and Report to begin tonight
SWIMs looking for something mild.....nothing out of this world, a low enough dose to be able to think about what is going on, analyze it, you know.
SWIM has 6 suitemates and at least two of them will be with SWIM tonight. They may be drinking a bit, but one is on probation. SWIM is 6'4 205, should he step it up to 300mg or stick with 250? Or of course, take 250 and leave redosing as an option? |

Might keep posting results. T plus 1 hour 40 minutes- Saw a light trail. Wow. jk but also feel goofy and no dout a bit sleepy. Typing is hard and arguous, I have to correct also very sentence. Hi everyone
I wanted to share SWIM's Diphenhydramine experiences. SWIM has been taking Diphenhydramine since 6 months ago more or less (maybe more). SWIM had some depression problems, being self injury the most important one. SWIM tried psychologists but they didnt work. SWIM never got access to antidepressants. So SWIM, remembering those nice highs of pot and coke from high school, decided to try something -anything. He discovered Diphenhydramine. He was so happy when he got his first little red box, never would he know that this would change his life. SWIM started with small doses, like 150mg. He loved the sleepy feeling, now he could just sleep after a day of hard work. SWIM really loved Diphenhydramine, so he started taking more, being a weekend, 250mg a night, and 350mg the next one, the maximum dose he took. SWIM never got powerful hallucinations, but some mild ones. He would see at a box of cookies, and see that it looked like some cd's, or a can, or something else. He would POWERFULLY dream while awake, mentally talking to his friends, or to himself. He would dream beatiful faces, places and situations, also he would use the computer while dreaming. Music perception would become heavenly-like, and it would last for days after each dose. SWIM thinks that this drug, along with some low plateau DXM doses, helped him to become emotionally/mentally better, since he has become happier and stopped the self injury after taking this drugs. The bad side: SWIM has developed some mild HPPD, specifically halos and negative after images, also floaters perception has increased. So far, its not that bad and he prefers those distortions in his vision than the things that happened before. Last edited by delphinen; 30-01-2007 at 15:14. |

Re: SWIM's Diphenhydramine experiences
That's interesting. I can certainly see DXM being beneficial - it helped my friend Swim with his demons more than anything except 2C-E. I never would have thought that diphenhydramine could be beneficial in the same way, however.
Swim tells me that his dph trips were nothing more than waking dreams, and mostly dull ones. His first experience, at 250mg, gave him a dreamlike state, mild hallucinations, massive fatigue, and horrible drymouth (worse than the time he smoked meth). His highest experiment was 500mg, and that gave him no hallucinations at all - the closest he came was occasional Predator-vision. On the other hand, I don't discount that it could have some positive mental effects for some people. If one was given to self-harm, being in a dreamlike delirium might be an improvement despite the harm anticholinergics do to one's body. I could even imagine delirium being useful in some ways, if one were interested in shamanism and such. Some of Swim's experiences had him seeing auras around objects and people that looked very much like what occulists call Kirlian Auras. Still, I would say dph should be a last resort. It is very hard on the body. My friend Swim recommends psychedelics first, then dissociatives for those with deeper issues or dissociated memories who need some shock therapy. If this is not enough, perhaps deliriants are worth a try. Just not too often. ECL |

Re: SWIM's Diphenhydramine experiences
Hmm sounds like a typical diphenhydramine experience. One thing SWIM has always enjoyed about the substance is the auditory sensations.Music becomes fascinating, one picks up things in their favorite music they usually wouldn't notice sober or on even lsd!It is a truly dark and eerie experience like a waking dream or waking nightmare in some cases and without out a doubt one of the more unusual and exotic highs.
