SWIM has been addicted to opiates for nearly two years and has tried (unsuccessfully in most cases) to quit. He started on percs doing 80-100mg a day and then started adding in OCs doing roughly 120mg a day combined. He tried tapering and realized it was a lost cause because he would keep dipping into the stash. Then he started methadone taking 10mg a day and got himself down to 5mg a day when his stash ran out and he was unable to come by any more. He was forced to buy OC 40s and was back up to 40mg+ per day. He scored a stash of 40 5mg percs and is currently taking roughly 15-20mg per day. In all his experience, nothing short of another drug can help during withdrawals.

Swim once successfully quit opiates for about 6 weeks after a 2 week binge on cocaine. Swim was spending over $100 per day on this replacement, however. He no longer has access to the sources he then had or he would go the same route again. Cocaine will keep all withdrawal symptoms at bay. However, when quitting cocaine cold turkey, a deep depression usually sets in. Swim climbed out of that depression in 2-3 days and was drug free for a month until a friend flashed OCs before his eyes. Then it was back to square one. If Swiy have the money and resources, a little snow can be very helpful. But Swim used it for his job as well because he worked long hours and travelled a lot. It kept him peppy just as opiates made him friendly and congenial toward the customers he would have normally reamed.

If swiy're still interested in tapering, another good method is to find someone Swiy trust and that is not a user to hold your stash for you. Have them give swiy your preferred dose only at the predetermined times and no more, no matter how much you beg, plead, or swear.

SWIM finds for himself that cocaine relieves the withdrwl feeling only for a few minutes. Afterwards SWIM is feeling ten times worse and double depressed. Cocaine for SWIM when he is sick is a definite no no . However once SWIM had had a few bags than it's time for the yak! Thank God SWIM no longer lives this life anymore. But honestly SWIM would be a total liar if SWIM said he didnt miss it.

Thumbs up Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

The last home detox AFOF did he used Tramadol, and a few DHC. These are excellent as you can bring yourself dwn one tab a day if you want. AFOF started with about 18 50mg a day and reduced himself over sbout a week. Down to 2 in the morning and 2 at night being the last dose. The w/d's were easily bearable. Eased it out of him very gradually. Another good thing about them is they bind you up doing away the need for immodium. He smoked weed too. AFOF finds a joint helps although he's heard a lot of people say it makes them much worse.

Benzos help you to sleep and stop that extreme, fidgety, restless agitation. Nytol over the counter sleepers work sometimes but a tolerance is built up quickly. Achohol he'd use as a last resort to calm him down.

As far as food is concerned, AFOF eats lots of bananas. He finds them easy to digest. A couple of decent size ones is quite substantial and the taste isn't overpowering. One of the worst things for AFOF is smells. Everything seems to have a really horrible pungent smell about it. Bananas also contain quinine which is supposed to help stop your legs going crazy. Tinned tomato soup is another favourite. Water. I actually saw someone put 'energy drinks and coffee' WOW! A couple coffees in the morning maybe, but even then not if you're not sleeping. Definately not energy drinks. You want something that's going to calm you down not speed you up!

Afof finds driving or being driven around helps. The engine motion/vibration is very soothing. Also hot baths or showers. Put some Radox [bath salts] or something similar in the bath water and lay in it for as long as you can. It will bring your pulse and blood pressure down aswell as soothing you.

Determination.

Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

Diphenhydramine. 50mg every 5 hours. SSRI relief, chills relief, sweating relief, imsonia relief.
Carisprodol and Benzodiazepines helped, of course, but only to get some sleep. Diphenhydramine helped me to keep my job while withdrawing from a 4 months Tramadol/Codeine/Hydrocodone addiction.

Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

1st, and most importantly, KRATOM.

Seriously, fellow kittens, some good premium/commercial kratom mixed with orange juice not only relieved 100% of my kitten's withdrawels (120mg hydrocodone/day), it even gave him a nice, stimulating, tramadol-esque buzz. When your not withdrawing, my kitten finds that kratom kinda defeats the purpose of pharmaceutical opiates- it can feel just as good, its unscheduled, and cheap!

Now, if for some reason you cannot procure kratom, my kitten recommends 10mg loperamide + 100mg tramadol TID (thats three times daily). At night, my kitten says that 75mg diphenhydramine helps sleep greatly. My kitten also tends to imbibe in around 6 drinks with the diphenhydramine, however, this could be dangerous for other kittens.

Another fun fact for kittens with nausea- meclizine (in doses of 50mg) will help nausea and cause little daytime sedation.

Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

I'm not sure how much truth there was to it, but a guy I once knew told me that just plain acetaminophen(paracetamol) would help with W/D symptoms such as the chills/hot flashes... At first I discounted this as just some rumor that had emerged, however after I thought about it, acetaminophen(paracetamol) are fever reducers, so it's a possibility that these might actually be slightly useful. If it a person's alternating chills/hot flashes are caused by an increase in body temperature, then this might work. SWIM hasn't been in any real W/Ds in quite awhile so he can't test this theory anymore.

SWIM has a friend who really did keep carisprodol around just for W/Ds.

Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

One of the thing swim hates about withdrawal is the constant rising and falling of body temperature.Being cold so swiy gets under the blankets and then suddenly swiy is burning up and sweat is pouring.Comfort just isn't possible. When comfort isn't possible sleep isn't either.

Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

This reminds SWIM of a cruise he went on, which SWIM was ill-prepared for... Anyways, SWIM found that the hot tub was a splendid thing to help him relax. Granted not all the SWIMs out there have access to a hot tub, nor does SWIM normally. But SWIM discovered this to be surprisingly helpful, during those moments when he couldn't get comfortable.

Hot showers or baths are of tremendous help if swiy is going through withdrawals.Even after swiy gets out of the water it will help swiy feel normal for atleast a brief time.

Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

Loperamide
Benzos or weaker opioids (tramadol)
Alcohol
Working out (releases edorfines)
Meditation (tons of guided meditation mp3s from everything to relax to quit an addiction, emule)
Other relaxant herbs, such as those teas in health stores for Insomnia, Stress and Anxiety. Works for me. Same with natural herb pills like combos of stuff I can't remember. Ask in pharmacy or health store.
Coca leaves if you have access

Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

Fasting for a few days before you come off the opiates is a good way to eliminate toxins that have built up over the weeks/years. Take a laxative tea at night and do a hot salt water flush in the morning, it gets everything out your system while your still on opiates = less uncomfortable stomach cramps when in withdrawal. Swim did this and he recovered quite fast from a high methadone dose.

Bonghed:

How would you say Kratom is in effects and strength? I'm curious about this plant as I heard various things about it from being a stimulant to a depressant.

how much would you need to use and how?

Re: Opiate addicts Cold Turkey Home Remedies

Alright everyone, I'm new....So whats all this SWIM business? Is this a name to refer to oneself?

At any rate, (I) have found that being out in the sun helps a lot. This is terrible for me because I live in WA, where the sun still hasn't shown for more than a day this year....and its the middle of JUNE for fricks' sake.
Needless to say, I'm having a tough time quitting the Oxy. I took .75 mg of a 10 mg methadone a few hours ago and the cravings are NOT going away. If I take more, it usually makes me sick.
