Expired Ritalin

I have some expired ritalin which I need to know if its safe to use it.
It expired a year ago...

I could get more, but I dont want to waste what I've got.

go for it. it will be totally safe. it doesn't decay into a toxic substance as it ages, it just loses it's potency.

ashtrashus: If you are prescribed to Ritalin, your doc won't let you take any expired medication. From what you wrote, it doesn't seem you are prescribed to Ritalin.

nonlinear: "go for it." Recommending somebody to engage in illegal activity is illegal. Ritalin isn't "totally safe". Nothing is totally safe.

I can only say that the expiration date on many meds is set very early, just in case. Usually, prescribed meds decompose slowly (almost everything does), and it depends on the decomposion products wether the medication is safe or not. Don't know nothing about methylphenidate chemistry though.
