Q re: drug arrests and financial aid
Perused the 'net and looked up the bit about denying collegiate financial aid to drug offenders.
Looks like the policy is: 1yr ban, 1st offense, lifetime by third strike. Dealers only get lifetime ban on second offense. (Yes, non-US citizens--rapists can get financial aid, not drug users). But then it says on the financial aid app: "Have you ever been convicted of a drug offense?" So a FEDERAL agency is asking about a STATE crime. So *if* I ever got convicted of something like misdomenor posession, they'd basically be relying on me to be a good boy and let 'em know so they could yank my aid. Otherwise, they won't find out. Right? |

Re: Q re: drug arrests and financial aid
Then SWIM could end up being charged with falsifying a Federal record - felony. Probably fine SWIM 10 times the amount of aid they'd have given. They L*O*V*E* to torture college students. You wouldn't believe what they're doing to a friend of mine.

Re: Q re: drug arrests and financial aid
If you are convicted of either a posession charge or a delivery charge then you are supposed to check that drug conviction box and they send you an additional work sheet to fill out to determine if you are elligible for financial aid. It then tells you if it has been a certain number of years since your conviction (depending on how many violations and whehter they were posession or delivery), or if you have completed a treatment program of some sort (like a couple weeks in rehab) that you can then change your answer to "No". A delivery charge is more severe in terms of how long you have to wait until you can answer "no" to the drug conviction question.

Re: Q re: drug arrests and financial aid
swim had a drug charge but completed a 1st offenders program which resulted in the charge being effectively dropped (swim didn't even have a lawyer - he just consulted his school's legal aid office, and they gave him perfect instructions). if swiy got charged, he would probably be given the same offer.
