Psychoactivity of GABA

I've been doing some reading, and cant find much on whether or not GABA would be psychoactive in itself, I have read that it cant pass the blood brain barrier, which leads me to wonder why its sold at all... Do the pills actualy have any effect at all? or is it just too unstable to have a recreational amount get to the brain? if so, any way to change that?
SWIM was considering monstrous doses of it, but isnt foolish enough to try it without input.

SWIM tried taking a bunch once(Maybe 6g or so can't remember) and he got a pretty bad headache. Other than that SWIM has never felt anything from GABA.

GABA's sold as a health supplement, for its physical health benefit. It has no more psychoactive effect than pseudophedrine (GABA is to GHB what pseudophedrine is to meth).

SWIM would say another good analogy would be loperamide (Immodium) and fentanyl/morphine.

Loperamide is very similar - All side effects (constipation, bloating) with a barely noticable psychoactive effect if any.

The BBB (Blood Brain Barrier) is far from the perfect 100% barrier. As has been shown with consuming incredibly high amounts of glutamic acid - MSG / Excitotoxin (This is controversial but I back the indepedant scientists on this one - not the government/corporate sponsored ones). So its definately possible for it to have an effect but certainly nothing easily distinguished from placebo. If this blood brain barrier wasn't perfect and had holes due to hypoglycemia or any other number of causes it wouldn't necessarily cause a nice reliable and usefull effect anyway.

Interestingly enough, it has been noted in several U.S. court documents that MSG converts to GHB in vivo.

After taking some GABA, SWIM will often feel a sudden shortness of breath and some irritating flushing, especially around swim's neck and face, for a period of usually under one minute. After that, swim feels slightly more relaxed and agreeable but hardly what swim would call 'high'. Swim finds it more useful as something to use along with other pills.

SWIM thinks that GABA is useful as an adjunct to other sedatives. Bodybuilders also use it as a growth hormone releaser. And of course, you can synth GHB and GBL from it...

That's something I'd like to try as well, since GBL seems to be dangerous to obtain here. I've tried gaba from 200mg to 4000mg, and other than horrible flushing/itching, no noticable psychoactivity... Which leaves me with a whack of useless podwer, or a new science project...

SWIY should research PHENIBUT. It is a derivitive of GABA that does cross the BBB and is effective at dosages around 2 grams. SWIM has tried this and it does work. Try any search engine and SWIY will find results.
