Extraction jar
Well, Swim decided to extract Salvinorin as pure as possible (can't believe it sells for XXXXX - NO PRICES! per mg ACCORDING TO SAGEWISDOM, not sure if that violates forum rules, if it does I apologize).
Anyways, in several extractions I always see this jar...... ![]() That jar looks perfect for the washes, it is also the only thing swim is missing for the extraction (except maybe a better pipette for removing dirty naphtha without disturbing the settled salvinorin). Does anyone know what kind of jar that is? It has a special lid i believe (I think it is glass). Also, would it be safe to put that jar into an oven (at 150 degrees F) assuming that it is pyrex, for the water washes. I think that jar is 100ml in volume, correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks! Re: Extraction jar
Nice jar and all, but 'tis really not all that important....It's just as easy to use a readily available, tall glass such as olives come in.... C'mon fellow swimmers: extracting/concentrating Sal-A is just about a no-brainer....Relax now, focus, big inhale.... Ahhhh

Re: Extraction jar
Well, the reason SWIM likes this jar is that assuming it is pyrex, SWIM can put it in the oven for the water washes. SWIM doesn't exactly have the greatest window sills or the time for the water evaporation.
Not only that, knowing the size of the jar helps so SWIM can get a rough estimate of the amount of Sal-A he is yielding. And lastly, the lid of that jar looks glass. If that is the case, SWIM doesn't have to worry about certain solvents dissolving plastics or other things. Speaking of which, does acetone dissolve cork or rubber?? Thanks!! |

Re: Extraction jar
Ok well, swim couldn't find out what kind of jar it was.
Swim did however find this jar lying around my refridgerator... ![]() It is 103ml and it will be great for the washes because it is so narrow. However I am still wondering. Is it safe to put a normal glass jar in an oven at 150 degrees F? Swim plans to first use an eye dropper to take all the tannin-absorbed water out, and then put the jar (without its lid of course) into the oven to help evaporate the rest of the moisture left over from the water wash. Any help would be great. Thanks! Last edited by Bajeda; 25-02-2007 at 21:27. |

Re: Extraction jar
What normally causes the glass to break is the extreme change in temperature in a short period of time. You an slowly heat glass and slowly cool glass with little likelyhood of it cracking or breaking. But if you move a hot glass container to a much cooler temperature or use cool tongs the difference in temperature (of the tongs and glass) will likely cause the glass to break.
When I was a youngster my Mother did quite abit of canning vegetables and fruits/jelly/jams etc., and if one of the canning jars broke it was usually due to quick changes in temperature. She would always heat the tongs in the canning solution before picking up one of the hot jars. Good luck, |

Re: Extraction jar
Thanks innerrequest, yeah SWIM has come a long way since this question.
For a jar, he just uses 30ml vials with plastic caps, not exactly what SWIM wanted because acetone can still dissolve the plastic, but it works just fine with naphtha and IPA. SWIM also doesn't put the jar in the oven anymore, he has a very wide flat baking dish that makes evaporation much much quicker. Hope this helps any future readers. Sal-A |
