first time methadone dose

yea swim used percocets about 6 times varying between 10-20 mg and was wondering what a first tiem dose of methadone should be for swim...and methaodne would work good if swim chews it like percs right?

Five to ten milligrams would be a good dose for a first timer on methadone.With it's oral bioavailabillity there is no need to chew them.Just dissolving them in water or grapefruit juice or swallowing them is perfectly suitable.

As far as methadone in pill form goes I believe the smallest SWIM has seen are the methadose 5mg's or if SWIY has the methadose 40mg biscuits SWIY could break it into for 10mg pieces.

Important to note: If SWIOP wants to use the grapefruit juice potentiation trick, SWIOP should injest said juice half an hour prior to dosing.

Also wait 2-3 hours to see if the methadone kicks in before attempting to up the dose. Some people say that methadone takes quite a while to have an effect (SWIM is one of them), and SWIY shouldn't bump the dose up after an hour if he feels nothing. The grape fruit juice potentiation trick works with this drug too, as covered in another recent thread.

The first time SWIM took methadone he took half of a 40mg biscuit and wasn't feeling anything unaware that it would take abit longer for the effects,then he took the rest of the biscuit.SWIM had one serious methadone experience for a beginner including vomiting but smiling and not caring while he did it.It sounds like fun but this is a very good way to overdose ones first time with methadone.

Swm is also one of those were methadone takes up to 2 hours before swim feels any effects.

The first time swim had ever taken methadone, he hadn't really any tolerance for opiates. Excited over having obtained 2 10mg methadone to try out, swim decided to take one of them at midnight and then fell asleep, only to wake up an hour or two later feeling a nice opiate glow. Swim liked how he felt, but it seemed mild in comparison with the percocet in which he was more accustomed to so Swim decided to take the 2nd 10mg methadone. From that point on, Swim was unable to get off of the couch for over 18 hours as he felt fine while lying down, but attempting to sit made Swim feel dizzy and nauseous. Using hindsight, given his current tolerance at the time, Swim would have taken only the one 10mg pill and tried to be patient.

SWIM would suggest 5mg, if not 2.5mg for a first time dose (yes, even with stated tolerance). Remember, methadone is going to take longer to kick in, and it's going to last much longer than a person who takes percs/vics is used to (up to 12 hours, though 7-10 is most common). It takes SWIM 1.5 hours to feel the first effects of the methadone dose, and an additional hour to get to the "peak" phase, when it's at it's strongest. Keep this in mind when consuming methadone recreationally!

Be careful with methadone; a friend of mine procured methadone tablets for himself and thought he didn't like it - he figured that since he took large doses of oxycodone to get off that he'd need at least the 10mg tablet of methadone, if not 2 of them. After weeks of trying and feeling shitty, he finally figured out that he only needed 5mg of methadone to get where he wanted to be, whereas he usually needed 80mg of oxycodone insuffalated a day to be "happy".

Please try it on it's own first before you go potentiating it; I know a few people who are long-term opiate dependant (like, taking it daily for more than 4 years) who found they could cut their doses in HALF if they took a normal dose DXM-containing cough medication with it. It's no joke - it's a strong medication as well as long-lasting and it needs to be respected!

Everyone's different, and everyone responds to methadone uniquely; start low and wait a good long while (3 hours) before deciding if a dose adjustment is required.
