Soma
Has any research gone into creating a drug that would resemble Soma*?
My personal interpretation of it would be non-neurotoxic ecstasy. Because in that sense people can still do work, yet feel good at the same time. Basically, are there any non-neurotoxic drugs that release large amounts of serotonin and safely reuptake it (like not accidentally reuptaking dopamine...super toxic). Or on the other hand, at the same time produce much more serotonin to compensate the heavy reuptake. I was just curious, because something like that would be revolutionary, I'm sure somebody has been doing this, but I can't find any lab reports. Note: * "Soma" is refered to in the novel Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, where in his ideal society, people hide their problems (rather than facing them) by ingesting "soma," which puts its users on "holiday." It is also stated that it is non-addictive, however takes years off of your life. |

Re: Soma
If you refer to the ancient Indo-Iranian ritual drink, you should look into the amanita muscaria... [which resemble more the effects of huxley's Moksha]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soma But if you refer to Huxley's happy drug [brave new world]... then you might want to look into something mescaline based... |
