Valium mixed with opiates is dumb
So Superbowl Sunday rolled around and swim was trying to stick to his sobriety when it comes to alchol. So he says to himself hell I'll just take some pills, I'm in pain anyway. So he takes 5mg of valium about an hour before it starts. He starts feeling a little happier and take 15mg of oxycodone. He's happy as and having a blast with all the other drunk people around. Half time rolls around and bam sleep time. He didn't wake up until about 2 hours after the game. So lesson learned, valium, even though it can potentiate opiates is probably going to knock you out before you can enjoy them fully.

Re: Valium mixed with opiates is dumb
Sounds like SWIY actually got let off easy, a fairly mild lesson from that combo if SWIM may say so. This combination can not only lead to passing out early, but some pretty rash and irresponsible decisions, or even death if one takes enough drugs. SWIM has seen lab rats who mixed the two do everything from the ridiculous (attempting to find constellations in a "sky" which was actually a ceiling) to the socially reprehensible (attempting to get into fights with people much larger than they are) to the dangerous (taking more benzos and drinking while on pills, then not remembering it the next morning). Something about this combination often seems to make people think they are fully in control of themselves at the time, but the next morning, IF they remember the experience, they understand how they didn't have much control. SWIM would really warn against mixing these, unless its under a doctors supervision (and sometimes they really do prescribe both, but SWIM does not think this is often).

He'd been taking 5mg of valium and 10mg of percs every day. He was prescribed up to 15mg valium a day and 30mg of perc. He has a tolerance being built up from the percocet and codeine for a few weeks, and hadn't had valium in a few days so it should've been mostly out of his system. He even had several sitters that he requested monitor his breathing. He fully understands the concerns, but he was in a safe environment while doing this. I was just giving one more reason not to do it, not only is it not the safest thing to do but also really boring.

Re: Valium mixed with opiates is dumb
SWIM forgot to mention, he read somewhere on erowid that the mix of oxycodone and diazepam was very bad... here it is. SWIM doesnt know how common this is, (or if its even true) but hes pretty sure this might want to be introduced to the author.

Re: Valium mixed with opiates is dumb
I'm just going to state yet again...doctor prescribed, sitters, not fun, but absolutely no adverse effects came from this other than a couple hours of napping. Not to sound like an ass but swiy story is about ten billion times worse than swim's. Swiy took the equivelent of 6x the benzos as swim about a shit ton more opiates.

Re: Valium mixed with opiates is dumb
hah, not being an ass at all... SWIM forgot to mention this, but SWIM just wanted to give an anecdote for the fact that CNS depressants are often synergistic and would make you much more drowsy, than if taken alone. SWIM isnt sure what could be done about this in a therapeutic way to help SWIY, but SWIM has seen more than one person end up ruining these drugs recreational potential due to the synergistic effects which often lead to blackouts. umm.. something is telling me swim forgot to tell SWIY something, but swim cant remember... stupid ADD...

Re: Valium mixed with opiates is dumb
This is an incredibly stupid decision (for all swimmers out there thinking about this). SWIM did benzo's and opiates once... he is lucky he lived. SWIM drank 1/3 a bottle of hydocan (liquid hydrocodone- thats 40 doses), 90 mg of codeine, 15 mg of oxycodone, 10 mg of vicodins, and 2 mg of xanax along with 1 mg of clonazepam. THEN about 2 shots of everclear. This was THE DEFINING MOMENT of STUPIDITY in swim's life. And all because SWIM thought pills did nothing to swim due to some unknown body chemistry. Well, it turns out while swim (who never does pills or opiates) has an INCREDIBLY high tolerance for opiates and benzo's, but this was enough to push swim off his cliff of tolerance. Well, needless to say, 40 minutes after the pill cocktail was taken, he took his everclear, and the rest of the night was forgotten. He supposedly tried to get in a fight with well... citizens of a minority race. he acted stupidly, and against morals because of this, as well as made a fool of himself, and almost killing himself. (this was at a football game btw).... swim would highly ADVISE NOT doing this unless supervised by a doctor (the mix of benzo's and opiates that is).

Re: Valium mixed with opiates is dumb
Well SWIironmics, he probably just passed out due to the CNS depressants combo. Even though he was prescribed this combo from a medical professional, the doc never told SWIY to use it with alcohol, did he? The fact that SWIY combined a narcotic (with acetiminophen probably), a benzo, and drank alcohol means that he got off lucky by just passing out. In the future, please be careful not to mix pills with other pills and/or alcohol, unless he knows what he is doing.

Re: Valium mixed with opiates is dumb
NO swim did this in the place of alcohol he would never be stupid enough to combine any benzo or opiate with alcohol after a really bad experience he had. Sorry for the confusion, swim realizes it was a bad decision, but the decision was not made in haste, or without a lot of thought. I should've added in my original post that it wasn't just unsafe but also boring. Swim just did not appreciate getting lectured by an absolutely ridiculous story.

Oh yes SWIironmics, you are right. SWIdr just read the story wrong, and thought SWIY was drinking and then took the pills. Many apologies...
