Question Trazodone and Carisoprodol

First time Swim is posting. Swim really enjoys reading all the info. Thank you all! Swim has a few questions to ask so please bear with me. I'm a newbie.
1) If a person were to be on Trazodone for some time to help sleep and then decided to take Soma would that be ok??
2) Same question as above but replace Trazadone with topomax.
Thanks in advance!
Peace

Re: Trazodone and Soma

Welcome, Thanyou for SWIming here!

1) Both Trazadone and Soma (Carisoprodol) cause sedation. Mixing two types of downer is generally not a good idea, because of the potential for unwanted sedation (ie unconsciousness). There is also a VERY real possibility of respiratory depression. Although Soma acts at the level of the spinal cord and Trazadone acts centrally, Soma actually metabolises to Meprobamate which IS active centrally: So NOT a good idea. Both Trazadone and Soma can cause Tachycardia and hypertension, so mixing the two would be ill-advised from a cardiovascular point of view as well.

2) Although the precise method of action of Topamax (Topiramate) is unknown, it too causes sedation: So the same warnings as above apply. Both Topiramate and Carisoprodol cause amnesia, so SWIY would likely not remember anything if they were unwise enough to try the combo.

In summary: Not recommended.

Can SWIJ ask why SWIY has Topiramate? It is an anti-convulsant with no recreational value. If SWIY has epilepsy then they should NOT be using Carisoprodol as it has been reported to cause seizures.

SWIJEdit: Having seen from SWIY's posts elsewhere that they are also taking Percocet, SWIJ would strongly counsel not attempting to mix the above drugs with opiates: SWIY's parrot would almost certainly become an "ex-parrot"

Re: Trazodone and Soma

Thanks for your Help! Swim really appreciates it. Now Swim knows. Knowledge is power! Swim asked because his friend suffers from Chronic headaches. He takes Trazadone to sleep and topomax to relieve fluid in the spinal cord.(Swim thinks but not sure). The headaches have been going on for 2 years now and the docs still have no idea what may be causing them. but with some research Swim may think its occipital neuralgia.
