When looking for a good quality bong and pipe SWIM wonders about what material is optimal and what is not. Pirex glass? Borosilicate glass? (is there a difference?) Something else?

Re: Choosing a pipe or bong: best material?
Anything like plastic, rubber, PVC etc. should obviously be avoided because they may bring traces of toxins along with the smoke into the lungs. Generally pirex glass is probably a good material to go for. Ceramic bongs are also pretty decent. Come to think of it, SWIM knows a potter. He might request to have a pottery bong made for him.

Re: Choosing a pipe or bong: best material?
One of SWIM's friends made a pottery bong while doing art. Actually lol their whole class pretty much did. The teacher didn't mind and the school is laid back. It's for people kicked out of other schools etc.
There's a nice hit of a pottery one. And as nature boy said avoid plastic one's etc. |

Re: Choosing a pipe or bong: best material?
Yeah glass bongs are nice but SWIM has had two break on him. Some of SWIM's friends just can't handle a good bong hit and they end up dropping the bong!!! damn them anyway

Re: Choosing a pipe or bong: best material?
Swim has a very good quality Shiva piece made from heavy duty pyrex. It is amazingly durable, has been drooped many times on wooden floors, metal corners of things, tiled kitchen floor from 5 feet, it has bought itself around 5-6 times now. Sadly though they are not indestructible, while cleaning my smaller shiva piece recently water was being flung of it, a firm grip was not in place, resulting in a very very fast moving pipe hurtling towards the tiles, the bowl is still intact, the stem in pieces. They do smoke wonderfully smooth and the pyrex has amazing heat asorbing properties, meaning it's almost impossible to heat the bowl enough that you can't hold it.

Re: Choosing a pipe or bong: best material?
Pyrex is a brand name of borosilicate glass. As is Kimex and Endural. There are more but swim cant think of them at the moment.
His friend is a glass blower and soon will start to learn the art of it. That guy makes some pretty cool stuff. Its really cool when the art costs around 50%-75% off retail! Swim has seen many of them bonce off steel and concrete. After a couple of times they crack. Then the next fall breaks them like a resin filled egg. Swim will not buy any other kind of pipe, even if he didnt get these cool pipes and bongs for cheap |

Re: Choosing a pipe or bong: best material?
Glass is definately the best material, SWIM got a 1.5 footer, 5mm thick one for 50$, they're easy to clean, and the smoke going up looks awesome.
