Forensic linguistics: the parameters of voice prints

Forensic linguistics are not only used for profiling, but are also used to make voice prints. The question is how effective those voice prints are. In many countries a mass of phone lines are tapped. Theoretically a voice print could be used to pick up on calls from other phone lines. A lot of governmental research is being done in forensis linguistics. What are your thoughts about this?
