Promethazine + E?

SWIM was presricbed promethazine because the person has slight trouble sleeping... SWIM likes to do E and was wondering if this combition is deadly or fun?

My original question does not matter anymore, i have heard not to mix these two..

But what i would like to know is: SWIM is planning to roll on friday. Which is tommorow, if he took his promethazine tonight would it affect his rolls tommorow?

It's mainly used due to it's strong antihistaminic properties, just like diphenhydramine(benadryl), but it's also a weak antipsychotic.
It has 1/10 the antipsychotic strength of chlorpromazin(thorazine) and IIRC antipsychotics are usually if not always dopamine antagonists.
The speedy amphetamine effect of MDMA is caused by the release of dopamine, while a dopamine antagonist will block this effect.
So in theory the amphetamine effect of MDMA caused by the release of dopamine might be (partially) blocked by the promethazine.

Maybe SWIM could use temazepam or some other sort of sleeping aid that is OK to mix with E to get to sleep a few days before and after his roll, then go back to promethazine a few days after rolling.

It means that their might be a possibility that the promethazine will block some of the amphetamine effects of MDMA.

SWIM agrees. Promethazine *WILL* lower the effects of ecstacy- it's related to thorazine (you know, the "chemical restraints" used in mental wards), but much weaker, so it won't effect it *much* but it'll still effect it. Promethazine has a halflife of 12 hours, and at medicinal doses, will last somewhere between 8-12 hours (at high doses maybe more). So.. when SWIM takes it to sleep versus when SWIM rolls will dictate alot.

It's only slightly more effective than benadryl at causing sleep at normal medical doses (very high doses will cause pretty potent sedation though). SWIM figures if someone's gonna get a sleep aid from the docs, they may as well shoot for a benzo-type drug (like valium or ambian) or one of those fancy new melatonergic drugs (look up Ramelteon on wikipedia for it).

The other think about benzos is they might be better with E, but SWIM really doesn't know (they're used in amphetamine overdoses, so maybe they wouldn't work well together). More importantly, it's possible that stimulant use could be partially responsible for insomnia? (especially a serotonin depleting drug such as E, which can cause mild anxiety on comedown).
