Selegiline experiences

SWIM needs a bit of a mind boost in the following period so he is going to start a Selegiline (L-Deprenyl) regimen. SWIM doesn't want to give up his tripping habits, which include 2C's, that have possibly fatal interactions with selegiline, so SWIM is going to integrate selegiline into his schedule. One week of taking selegiline, two weeks off, in order for his MAO levels to return to normal before the trip.

SWIM's concern though is the possibility of long-term negative consequences from selegiline supplementation. After all it boosts dopamine levels, and it would be atypical if the usual homeostatic mechanisms wouldn't move in to compensate. That could result in dopaminergic downregulation, causing withdrawal symptoms after discontinuing. And given that selegiline is usually taken for long periods of time, there could be long-term consequences as well.

Does anyone have experience with selegiline? Did you have any withdrawal or rebound symptoms after discontinuing? For what periods of time did you take it?

For those who don't know what it is, here are the basics, provided by BLTC:

http://www.selegiline.com/

SWIM has already tried it and it works, from the first day .

Re: Selegiline experiences

SWIM is a bit concerned that he did not in fact receive the Selegiline he ordered. He takes 2.5mg sublingually and it really numbs his tongue. So far he has found no other reports of this occurring with Selegiline. If this is normal SWIM would love to know.

Re: Selegiline experiences

What formulation is it? (I.e liquid, pill, etc) Brand name also. Taking anything else with it?

Its possible that its something else contained in that particular pill which is a filler/binder(its not normal but could happen). If it helps SWIM found selegiline bitter and rather unique tasting. Unfortunately can't remember if it numbed as such though. Definately distinctive taste.

Re: Selegiline experiences

Please post in the suitable threads and keep this discussion about selegiline, not selegiline+PEA.

SWIP personally has tried to use selegiline (10 mg/day) as a nootropic and antidepressant (it is used in patches for depression in doses of 6mg/24h). Let's just say that (for SWIP) the only difference between that selegiline and sugar pills would've been the taste (selegiline is bitter and appeared to numb the tongue when the tablet was chewed).

Re: Selegiline experiences

SWIM took selegiline roughly 5mg/day for two months. In this time, there was much less of a tendency to depression but also an increased tendency to engage in rewarding but unhealthy activities, and a decreased tendency to engage in healthy but rewarding activities. SWIM smoked more, drank more (alone and social) and jogged/worked out less.

A month in SWIM took 120mg MDMA and 6 E tabs at a festival, resulting in severe amphetamine psychosis (after 1 1/2 days: there was no tendency to use MDMA in this fashion beforehand; using 2-3 tabs E as an average for 4 years prior. Massive psychosis lasted about 2 days. This makes sense if one considers the dopamine hypothesis of psychosis. There was no feeling of toxicity or depression as a result of this excessive MDMA use)

Use of selegiline continued until GBL use began; withdrawals from G began after 24hrs use (with 2hr dosing regimen). Because of the 'dopamine hypothesis' selegiline use was discontinued (withdrawals at 48 hours point involved psychosis, but dopamine hypothesis has since been shown to be incorrect, SWIM assumes withdrawals were purely due to GBL).

On the whole, SWIM considers selegiline an effective preventative treatment for MDMA toxicity (should be avoided in MDMA abuse/binges), useful for short term depression but not worthwhile for long term use or use for an individual who has healthy habits to begin with.

Re: Selegiline experiences

After trying it for 3 weeks at 5mg/day, SWIM wouldn't recommend it. SWIM wondered whether it had rebound symptoms, now SWIM found out. The effects were subtle and gradual, a slight constant stimulation, a slight mood flattening and sensible increase in physical stamina. The rebound after discontinuing was not worth it though - about 3 weeks of "blankness" - again, not too pronounced, but annoying - emotional and volitive apathy, but strangely no tiredness.

Re: Selegiline experiences

Selegiline aka deprenyl when taken by those who do not have major depressive disorder (or any other serious illness which requires daily dosing) can be cycled by discontinuing use on the weekends or if taking higher than 10 mg go 3 weeks on and 1 off. Many people simply take 5-10 mg as needed.

Re: Selegiline experiences

A very small amount of l-dopa compliments selegiline nicely. Also many people combine with PEA but this disagrees with swim ramping up his blood pressure.

Re: Selegiline experiences

SWIM found some real nice racemic freebase selegiline liquid. It looks like a dark grey/purple sludge, and it glows hot pink under a blacklight. Great stuff, SWIM recomends it highly. Way better than that clear levo- citrate stuff. It has a nice mood lift effect that the clear stuff is missing. It was cheaper too. The info the supplier had was pretty vauge on the contents, but SWIM is pleased with the results.
