Re: ket - floatation tank

SWIM came so close so many times. Since Lilly made it popular, SWIM's been dying to try it. Would have to do a 90 minute float.

SWIM floated on k and reports that it was awesome. Very good visuals in the dark and lots of insights, apparently.

Pioneering work done by Dr. John Lilly (see The Center of the Cyclone). Michael Hutchison (of Megabrain fame) also wrote a book called "The Book of Floating", which includes home-made construction plans to build your own tank. Sammadhi is/was a big manufacturer http://www.biof.com/oasis.html of factory-built tanks (they are generally not cheap tho).

Re: ket - floatation tank

OMG what a brilliant idea, we have a flotation pool at my work. Its about the size of 2 baths. Think this would be better than the float tanks as they can be quiet claustrophobic. Will try ASAP and report back...

Budgie thinks the idea of the tank is the lack of stimulus, as it's dark and quiet. Not sure a flotation pool is the same thing.

YOU shouldn't do ketamine. SWIM or your peth sloth may do ketamine. Still, doing it at work is very very VERY risky. I wouldn't.

I agree not a wise idea to do K especially at work, SWIM has keys to her workplace and would do it out of working hours.

SWIM has informed me that a flotation pool is very similar to the tank can also in a dark environment as you can adjust the lighting to on/off or ambient, water is the same depth as the tank you just wouldnt be enclosed in a tank or pod. If you google floatation pool you should find some pics.

Haha, yeah- Don't sink, SWIM!

Where can you go and float whilst under the influence?
Does it require a personal tank, or contacts with the cleaners at a float center?
SWIM couldn't go to the local float center on any substance, the 35 euro hour wouldn't be enough, and 2h too expensive..

Most float-tank centers are run by relatively substance friendly management in swimy experience. My friend has been intravenously dosed by the practitioner with K during an experience after a relationship was developed. It seems the two go hand in hand....

Re: ket - floatation tank

I've floated dozens of times since 1999 (sans psychoactives). The very first time, I entered a dreamlike state where imagery was very vivid but I was still awake. I found out later I was in the theta brainwave state. When I got out, colors were much more vivid and for the next or so, I felt like I was a fraction of my weight - like walking on the moon. Also, the sunlight was noticeably softer.

In another float session, I felt my body getting bigger until it was the size of the float tank itself. I just stayed calm and rode it out and eventually the feeling subsided. The owner later told me that I was on the verge of an out of body experience. I'd been hypnotized before and thought I had floated out of my body, but I'd never had the sensation of my body growing like that. Very memorable!

Another memorable float session was a couple days after I saw The Polyphonic Spree live. For the majority of the 1 hour float session, I heard the most amazing original music. There were many different styles that segued from one to the next (jazz, baroque, shoegazer, blues, orchestral, tribal...), all being held together with these wonderful complicated rhythms. I'm not a musician and I don't think I'm musically inclined (I'm very visual) so this was a really surprising and spectacular experience.

So considering all of these peak experiences, in addition to the "average" experience of achieving theta nearly every time I float, I've been very satisfied with the float tank experience sans psychoactives.

Re: ket - floatation tank

John Lilly was a scientist - he used floatation tanks only with medical supervision - i.e. doctors and nurses on standby

Don't be idiots.... you'll die!

wavey davey added 0 Minutes and 35 Seconds later...

if you search ketamine floatation tank on google - you'll read the death reports

Re: ket - floatation tank

Lilly, as inventor of the isolation tank, wore a lot of gear (including a mask) and understood the dangers well. I'm not sure from his books whether he was always supervised or not, but here is a cautionary tale about K and isolation tanks:

Quote:
An inquest was told James Richardson was found in just over a foot of water by his girlfriend, Sarah Waters, at Float Nation....

In a statement to the court on Tuesday, Ms Waters said Mr Richardson had snorted ketamine before an earlier floatation tank session ... and had some in a tube ready for the appointment....

The court also heard from Float Nation co-owner Stuart Holbrook, who said his business, which has now closed, was purely a "health and therapy centre, specialising in aiding relaxation", and not into letting customers take illegal drugs...

He said the pair then both read and signed disclaimers which expressly detailed how "it is inadvisable to use the floatation tank under the influence of drugs or alcohol".

They found the 30-year-old, of Nightingale Road, lying on his back, his face above the water and foaming at the mouth.

Not a great way to go!

Re: ket - floatation tank

I've read 3 of lilly's books, he was supervised as his tank was in university grounds - support staff were on hand for ket and lsd experiments.

I've floated 100's of time and the most profound and powerful experiences are achieved without drugs.

I saw corrinors report and the guy in Reading drowned on his own vomit (his parents must be so proud) - and the business where he died closed within weeks of his death, so he wasn't the thing that died that night.
