Possession of Prescriptions by minors?

Swim wants to know what the status of legality is when it comes to minors (under 18) having their own prescriptions, in the original bottle with label, on their person.

AFAIK if the prescriptions are real it's legal(i'm assuming you mean in the U.S.). I know there are rules specific to places like schools that prohibit consumption of ANY pills, even non-prescription ones without special provision or other circumstances. But in the general case I don't think the age of the person makes any difference when it comes to the legality of prescriptions.

yeah if the script is in your name it doesnt matter how old you are. but as swid said shcools usually don;t allow any pills to be on your person while on campus. swim knew someone who was suspended at his old high school for having his add meds on him.

It's not just prescription meds either, there have been kids expelled for literally having advil. Hurrah for zero tolerance.

How old is SWIboylizard, exactly, where that would even be an issue? As an echo of the above statement, as long as the pills are what they say they are, and the name is who its supposed to be, and its not at school, shouldn't be a problem...although a 90 count Norco bottle being toted around by a healthy 12 year old might lead to an investigation of the family doctor, methinks.

SWIM is nearing 19. This post is the product of one of swims random thoughts (swim was hassled by a cop a year and some back for having his vicodin on him (third degree burns))

SWIM remembers the good old days when the presence of a prescription bottle at all (didn't matter what was inside) was enough to deter any police from hassling. But then, SWIM also remembers seeing a friend searched by several police who suspected he MIGHT have cigarettes in his pocket (the friend was 13 at the time). So guess it all depends on how zealous the law enforcement is in one's neck of the woods.

theyre pretty zealous here. They don't like anyone without money or without a uniform.

why not just going to ur administration and tell them you have a percription to something and your wondering if you are aloud to carry them on you on campus i dont see how u could go wrong there

Also remember to have some form of I.D., because cops will hassle you. Also some perscription drugs are not illegal, even without a script.

The law reads, at least for any controlled substance in the USA, that it must be in the original prescription bottle. If your percocet is in your "daily-dose" container along with your ant-acid and your high blood-pressure drug, the police can take the drugs away from you and summon you to court (at least). Then even if you show your prescription bottle - they can keep your meds.

So always keep a capsule of sodium cyanide in your "daily-dose" container - just in case Occifur Dinkstain decides to rid the world of drug users from the comfort of his own home.

Believe that's actually a law for states to decide. At the point in time of the story, it actually was illegal for underage kids to possess cigarettes, not just to buy them. Or so this individual was told by the police...being a young lab rat at the time, he did not bother to go check the laws (this was also before everything was on the internet).

And yes, that phrase would make for an excellent tattoo. Carries a nice ring to it.

Off topic but...
Not sure where you guys live, but it's illegal to possess and buy cigs if under the age of 18 in CA. The worse a cop would do, if someone under the age has cigs on them is get a ticket though. Not only cigs, but other 'tobacco' products, like lighters.

Where Smurf lives, no one can smoke in public places or less then 100?20? feet from a public place. No matter if it 'was' a smokeing area or not. Not sure if they passed it yet or it's going to be passed. But Smurf, truely enjoys that one. Even the old people have to abide, WOOHOO!

Well here in nevada it's only illegal for minors to buy cigs. you can possess and consume them at any age, smoking is very prevalent here too I think we have the highest population of smokers per capita in the whole US.
