stopping opiates, but longterm! no short term BS
So swim moved to unsaid place and part of the reason was because of swiy's drug addiction the other was school. Now swiy doesnt live far about an hour from swiy's old town. And swiy has been doin pretty good, but it is always in the back of swiy's mind.......SWIM WANTS DRUGS ie heroin, oc's, 30mg percs etc etc............swiy has been trying many things to stop thinking about it and everytime swiy goes home he does end up using but only for a day or two.......any herbal things that can help with just relaxing him/stopping the thinking of the drugs. The other bad thing is that swiy learned that H is very easily obtainable around here, however swiy wont go looking........Alot of things that have helped me so far are to just talk to people about the addiction, with friends who dont use. I guess this is partly why swiy is posting this........heh wish swim luck!

Re: stopping but longterm no short term BS
Mostly, quitting is going to have to come down to SWIY dissociating "fun" from "drugs". SWIY will probably have to make friends who don't use SWIY's old drugs of choice, and avoid the ones who do use (at least for a while, until the cravings get lessened). The only herbal things SWIM can think of that might help are drugs in and of themselves, is SWIY trying to quit using all drugs, or just opiates? Kava seems pretty efficacious with putting one in a relaxed frame of mind, but SWIM doesn't know how well it would help to stop the cravings. Same goes for Kratom, but since Kratom is at least partially active on the opioid receptors, it carries with it its own possibility of addiction, and using it might remind SWIY of what opiates feel like, and start the cravings all over again.
So, overall, SWIY would probably reccomend some lifestyle changes, at least until it gets easier to handle the urge to use drugs, and SWIM would like to hear from others as to if they think Kava would help at all in this case. If SWIY has health insurance at his school, it might be worth it to talk to a doctor as well, since they might be able to reccomend something that SWIM hasn't thought of. |

Re: stopping but longterm no short term BS
well swim has xanax and youre right swim needs to change the people around him. Whenever he talks to someone they hang out with alot that used with them, mainly swiy's wingman. But yous ee myself and my wingman have always chilled everynight all the time ya know? So when Swiy does go out or his friend alone its jsut boring. But swiy talks to said friend all the time and really dnt want to lose a friend like him. Although if swim tlaked to said person Im sure theyd understand.....guess thats how its gotta be or jsut tough it out............

Re: stopping but longterm no short term BS
Hm, perhaps SWIY and his wingman could still hang out, as long as his wingman refrains from using around SWIY, and possibly even talking about using drugs (if talking about it is enough to induce craving). But it wouldnt hurt to hang around people that don't use, either. 5-HTP or St. John's Wort might help a bit with some of the depression that can follow prolonged periods of opiate use, as well.

Re: stopping but longterm no short term BS
Valerian Root and Benedryll are great for getting to sleep on those restless nights. Swim would also recommend checking into a detox program if it continues this way. Swim had to do an outpatient (Subutex) detox cuz he was gettin bad. Post on this forum. A LOT! It helps, really. It helps to talk to other people in the same predicament that Swiy is in. Swim's goin through exactly what you are brother. PM me if you ever just wanna chat or need an encouraging word. Peace.

Re: stopping but longterm no short term BS
Same thing happens to alot of lab rats SWIM knows, usually on their first or second day of stopping use though. Laying down seems to help, maybe pepto-bismol as well.

Re: stopping but longterm no short term BS
Does SWIY have a plan to taper off the kratom, or is SWIY going to use it for maintenance? Keep in mind that kratom carries with it its own set of addictive properties, and SWIY may end up swapping one addiction for another. Either route is fine if thats what works for SWIY, but SWIM just didn't want SWIY to get a nasty shock if the kratom runs out and withdrawal symptoms start in again. From what SWIM can garner though, kratom withdrawals are milder than full opiate withdrawals.

Re: stopping but longterm no short term BS
From the info I've been able to gather recently (this is a new field here in the West), anyone who has gone through withdrawl from a moderate to strong heroin addiction - or other full-on opiates - will find the withdrawl from kratom to be annoying rather than wall-climbing.
Not suggesting swapping out addictions, but if one had the option then kratom would be far less pain. |

Swim only used kratom 2 days, just to try out, swims not planning on swapping addictions.........swim has used nothing today and prior to the kratom it had been a few days with one slip up.

Re: stopping opiates, but longterm! no short term BS
Have you tried GHB/GBL for wd's? swim found GBL a HUGE help for all wd symptoms. You can get to sleep, (Well, knock yourself out) it totaly helps with the thrashing legs and even seemed to help swim with the hot/cold sweats and the runny nose and eyes. Everything really!
A few benzos can work wonders too, as long as you don't go crazy with them and just use them for the first week. As for herbal stuff, swim found passiflora, (passion flower) tablets to help a little too. Keep up the great work, don't give up on giving up.

Re: stopping opiates, but longterm! no short term BS
NeverSober,
I have a friend SWIM who quit like you did, he did great! However, about three months after he quit, he got terrible cravings. He started to itch old track marks and start shaking and having panic attacks. He went to see a doctor about getting him on Suboxone and the doctor told SWIM it was a good thing he came in when he did. You see, SWIM had something known as PAWS (I can't remember allt he words of the acronym atm). Now, three months on Suboxone, SWIM is very happy and well on his way to a happy and healthy recovery. I highly recommend buprenorphine treatment and so does SWIM!
