Analogue laws Ireland

Does anyone know or have an idea where to look to find out if there are provisions for analogue or catch all new drug laws similar to the Uk in Eire?

Re: Analogue laws Ireland

I believe these paragraphs from the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1988 cover most of the common RCs.
Quote:
(b) any substance (not being a substance specified in sub-paragraph (a) above) structurally derived from tryptamine or from a ring-hydroxy tryptamine by substitution at the nitrogen atom of the sidechain with one or more alkyl substituents but no other substituent:

(c) any substance (not being methoxyphenamine or a substance specified in sub-paragraph (a) above) structurally derived from phenethylamine, an N-alkylphenethylamine, µ-methyl phenethylamine, an N-alkyl-µ-methylphenethylamine, µ-ethylphenethylamine, or an N-alkyl-µ-ethylphenethylamine by substitution in the ring to any extent with alkyl, alkoxy. alkylenedioxy or halide substituents, whether or not further substituted in the ring by one or more other univalent substituents:

Re: Analogue laws Ireland

There are no laymans terms for this. The main term here is 'structurally derived'. At the first glance this looks like all tryptamines and all phenethylamines are covered by this act. But then again why is there a need to name variations of phenethylamines? If any substance structurally derived from phenethylamine is covered, then why is there a need to name µ-methyl phenethylamine? Isn't that a substance structurally derived from phenethylamine? I'd apreciate some input here.

The phenethylamine structure can be found in many molecules. Even in the molecule of LSD. So how far does this law reach? Are ketones or other structures which have a phenethylamine structure included covered by this law?

The ambiguity of law simply astounds me!

Storming Heaven; Is there any particular substance(s) SWIY is wondering about?

I assume they are trying to make the act as comphrehensive as possible to avoid loopholes.
Worth noting is that the wording of these paragraphs is identical to that of the tryptamine/PEA derivitive paragraphs in the UK Misuse of Drugs Acts 1977.

Re: Analogue laws Ireland

Swim cant really say at this time but suffice to say that swim spends a lot of time dodging the rain and the bullets and needs to see if there is any differnece between UK and Eire on this matter its where they differ as well as where they are the same that is the key to swim's query!

Trebor, we are talking about analogs of controlled substances. Weed is another topic.
