Disappointing Ayahuasca experience
SWIM tried Ayahuasca for the first time some weeks ago... But effect disappointed him, he thought that he would have a strong and mystical trip, but all he experienced was something like a light mushrooms trip which lasted for 2 or 3 hours.
SWIM thinks he did an error when making the brew or that he had bad material. He bought 8g powdered MHRB and 3g Syrian Rue on a famous online Dutch smartshop. But he made the brew only around 4 months after buying the plants, so maybe the potency was decreased (don't know how much it lasts), but he doesn't think it was the problem. To make the brew he followed a recipe found on erowid. Basically, he put all his stuff in water + lemon juice, boil it for around 10 minutes, strain the brew throught a piece of cloth, and restart from the beginning with the remaining mush. Then he did this a third time and he drank the brew. After reading on the internet about Ayahuasca SWIM thought he would be puking, but very little nausea was felt and he didn't puke. The trip started fast, something like 20 minutes after drinking the brew. No visual distortions, but SWIM couldn't stop laughing and being stupid with his friends, it was funny but he was looking for something "deeper". What could have been the error ? Maybe is SWIM's body tolerant to tryptamine ? He usually needs at least 3g of dried psilocybe to achieve a good shroom trip. I think he made an error somewhere when making the brew... But SWIM will try again of course, he's sure he can enjoy the Ayahuasca for what it is if he find how. |

Re: Disappointing Ayahuasca experience
It sounds like swim didn't get enough MAOI into his system for the full effect of the DMT to kick in.
Did swim grind his rue seeds? They're tough and boiling them whole might not have extracted enough harmala. |

Re: Disappointing Ayahuasca experience
SWIM would suggest usually making enough for at least 2-3 doses at a time, so if the first doesn't quite cut it, the second dose can be taken an hour or so after the first, to make sure the effects are felt..
Also, long slow cooks seem to work better than shorter quicker ones.. SWIM seriously doubts that with a ten minute soak they even got much of the goodies out.. SWIM suggests soaking in a crockpot or a stainless steel pot, even, on med heat for several hours, minimum.. |

Re: Disappointing Ayahuasca experience
SWIM has had problems earlier in preparing this brew. Today he tried 10 grams of mimosa and 5 grams of peganum and the experience was really intense and mystical but also a bit frightening and lonely. It is true that it's much harder to let go than one would think. The difference today was that SWIM took the peganum in gelatin capsules. Before he had cooked crushed peganums for hour. He has also tried acidifying the water for peganum(as he did to a mimosa tea this time).
