Troy,Michigan drug house raided
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007701050404
Troy drug house raided 96 marijuana plants found January 5, 2007 BY FRANK WITSIL FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER Bursting through the front door of a suspected drug house in Troy, Oakland County Sheriff's Sgt. Brent Miles and other officers first noticed the smell. "It was extremely pungent," Miles said Thursday at the Oakland County Sheriff's Office in Pontiac. Inside the home on Webb Drive, officers found 96 marijuana plants -- at different stages of growth -- scales, a freezer full of dried marijuana leaves and more than $81,000 in cash hidden in a wall safe behind a mirror. The house also had bedrooms and a basement that had been turned into a greenhouse with special lights and a sophisticated irrigation system used to grow the plants. Officers said they also found a shotgun, rifle and revolver in the house. "It's clear someone had put a lot of time and money into it," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said of the drug operation. Bouchard warned that drug dealers have begun hiding their activities in nondescript suburban homes, and the Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team, made up of several police departments, received an anonymous tip about the home at 58 Webb Drive. After officers raided the house in Troy on Tuesday, they arrested the 48-year-old owner, Richard Nash, who is charged with two counts of drug possession -- each punishable by up to 7 years in prison -- and two counts of possession of a firearm while committing a felony -- with each count punishable by up to 2 years. Nash is being held in the Oakland County Jail with bail set at $25,000, pending a preliminary examination at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 17. Officers are investigating whether others are involved in the drug operation, Bouchard said. |

Re: Troy,Michigan drug house raided
I'm still pretty new to Michigan so I don't know alot about the various counties and such, but I know Troy has alot of immigrants relative to most of Michigan, so that could explain the increased police vigilance (either more drugs around there which I dont think, or just a bit of good ol' bias).

Re: Troy,Michigan drug house raided
Troy does somewhat have a lot of immigrants, but compared to some of it's surrounding cities such as Ann Arbor or even Sterling heights it falls way behind first.
I am very familiar with the area and have heard many rumors over the past few months of trucks with obscene amounts of marijuana being seized. I guess these trucks were responsible for a large portion of the area's marijuana, which produced a dry spout, thankfully, it only lasted about a month. |

Re: Troy,Michigan drug house raided
Oakland county has been the site of several recent busts. Notably, a seizure of several 10's of grams of DOC which was reported in the most recent MicroGram journal, plus a few other police reports about that particular chemical. Also, the bust of a guy, who was well-known on drug-related discussion boards, for importing GBL.
It seems to be a hot spot. |

Re: Troy,Michigan drug house raided
I find this all interesting. If anything I thought Ann Arbor or Detroit would be more of a hotspot for drugs, especially Detroit seeing how many drugs go through their either through Windsor or just on the highway. Maybe its just a matter of better policing?

Re: Troy,Michigan drug house raided
Investigating if others are involved in "the drug operation"??
Well I'm guessing real-estate prices will be dropping soon - after all the neighbor's have been hauled away for having a rifle in their closets and a $10 bill in their wallet. Serve & Protect? I think not. |

Re: Troy,Michigan drug house raided
The biggest mall that SWIM has ever seen is in Troy. There is a lot of money going around in that city.

Re: Troy,Michigan drug house raided
It's definitely more "oppressive" policing. Mostly DUIs and DUINs, leading to possession, leading to tip offs. The first road in the USA "Woodward" runs right through the county and I-75 runs right through Troy. SWIM has his share of trouble in that area and a nasty taste of that DOC blotter, and some potent DOC as liquid LSD. People around Oakland, don't look out for anyone, rich brats, mostly narcissistic bastards.
