What should I do about this situation?
A friend of mine took my car and ended up getting pulled over. They found pieces of pot and a cd case with coke residue. They took him to jail and are trying to pend him with a felony for the case because it tested positive. I got my car out of a garage where they towed it, and when I took it home I figured out that my $700 subwoofers out of the back were missing. Someone I know who was watching the event saw one of the police officers that were searching my car put it in their cruiser. I really don't want to go up there and get in the situation and put my own self in a legal situation because it was my car, but I would like my speakers back. What can I do?

Re: What should I do about this situation?
Forget about the subwoofers until you speak to a lawyer. There's more to worry about than that. Get a lawyer.
With regards to cd's: I always lend them from friends, which in turn may have lend it from friends, which in turn may have gotten them in a certain bar, where they also had no clue where they came from. Catch my drift? |

Re: What should I do about this situation?
Getting an attorney to retreive your subwoofers will probably cost more than 700 bucks. However, the joy of nailing a pig for theft would be Priceless!

They are in my neck of the woods. A lawyer friend of mine helped get one 20 years.

Re: What should I do about this situation?
Try calling the ACLU. They give free legal advice.
...or go ahead and call a private attorney, but be ready to cough up a retainer-fee that comes close to (or exceeds) the cost of replacing the woofers. Once the actual legal work begins, you may actually end up paying more. Otherwise, kiss your property goodbye and be glad they didn't take your car. Lose the idiot that you call your "friend". . |

I agree with all of the above, get an attorney, then worry about your speakers. Also concentrate on proving it wasn't your dope.

Re: What should I do about this situation?
It would seem that the first order of business would be for you to ask yourself, "How much is pursuing this really worth to me?"
You can either go on a crusade and fight for justice, both personal and societal, and fulfill the path you think is right. Or you can simply cut your losses, take a valuable lesson from this experience, and focus on other things important to you in life while working to save up for another pair of subwoofers. This isn't a decision to take lightly, so mull over it for a bit. Seeing a lawyer as a preliminary measure would be a good thing as well to get an idea of where you case would stand if you pursued the issue. Good luck. |

Re: What should I do about this situation?
Did you try asking the cops about your subwoofer? I know you said you don't want to be in that situation, but if they let you take your car back and didn't charge you with anything, I doubt they would want to just because you asked "Where's my subwoofer?" If for some reason they're keeping it for evidence they'll tell you. If they tell you they know nothing and you have a witness that saw them putting it in the cruiser, I'd say you have a good case.

Re: What should I do about this situation?
I agree with Nostradamus... The CDs may have come from someone else, there is no direct connection to you on them. You could simply say that they were borrowed from a friend, or deny any affiliation with them.
I know what it's like to loose some nice subs, I have a 550USD Fosgate T215 in the mail arriving tomorrow and I would be extremely irritated if it was stolen. I recommend asking them about the subs... Good luck mate!
