Contact with a dead friend

On christmas day swim had the most strange but magical and amazing experience.

To set the scene swim's best friend died 2 years ago on christmas night in a tragic accident. Swim understands now that he is unlikely to ever fully accept this loss but it has given him a much more philisophical view on life, he no longer fears death and has become much more accepting of 'spiritualistic' ideas, although he is the first to admit he knows very little about these things.

Anyway on Christmas day Swim began feeling very tired at about 6pm, which is unlike him. So he went to bed, Swim awoke some time later and his mobile phone was ringing. Now it gets strange, when Swim looked at his phone it was his phone from years ago and his friends name, Rowan, was calling. Now swim thought he must be dreaming and he made a big effort to wake himself up but this didn't happen so he answered the phone call. No words were spoken but Swim felt vibrations of energy pass through every bit of his body, the feeling was absolutely indescribable and it seemed to go on endlessly. Swim wishes he could describe this feeling to you all, but as many others on here know there are no words to describe an experience that you cannot relate to anything else.

Swim normally has great difficulty remembering his dreams but at just before 9pm he woke up with this event clear in his mind and a feeling of well-being and warmth that he has not known before.

Swim knows there are plenty of sceptics in the world who would say this is just a dream and they may be right, but Swim believes that this was his friend letting him know that he hasn't forgot about him either and giving him the best christmas present ever.

No that is interesting; skeptics.... well the only thing that seems valid would be to state that: it is ignorant to say it could never happen. I think the best part, was your description of the energy cascading through your body. Everything is condensed energy, so why couldn't it happen?

So Grecian, would you say that this experience was not bound to the here and now? Could this of happened to other people in other situations, as pertaining to any span of history, do you think?

Wow that is so awesome!!! SWIM had a close friend die 9 years ago and has wished ever since that she could somehow make contact or feel that he is ok, and though she still thinks of him often this has never happened. SWIY must feel totally blessed to experience this!!!! Just reading it made SWIM feel warm. thanks for sharing!

It's indeed ignorant to say such things are impossible. It's exciting to know that there are things above and beyond our scope of 'understanding' and I'm glad you weren't frightened or disturbed by the event. It sounds like you'll never forget Christmas 2006! One question; had you been thinking about Rowan in the days leading up to xmas? And did you come to the conclusion that it was indeed a vivid dream or do you still not know? Even if it was a 'dream' it still was spiritual in nature and is just as valid as a waking experience. I'm just curious and mostly I'd just like to hear more about it, I'm a big fan of the paranormal/parapsychology.

I don't mean to hijack your thread here but I just wanted to share a similar experience with a dead friend contacting Swimmy...

Swimmy had a friend that commited suicide last year. He was a heavy drug user as well.

Swimmy was dreaming one night and dreamed of back when they lived together several years ago. Addicted to drugs and living in incredible poverty. The friend looked at Swimmy and he said "Its all good man...just let me go" and the house suddenly caught fire. When Swim woke up he cried...pete dying was really upsetting for swimmy as they were very close. When he got out of bed, a poem he had written to pete was lying on the dresser under a lamp (this was strange because the poem was in a notebook that was inside the dresser when he went to sleep)...written in faint writing (pete's hand-writting) on the side of the page was the words "nice! thanxs".

Swimmy felt so happy and filled with relief...

Swimmy can relate to how you feel.

Im sure that I am not the only one to experience such a thing, however I believe everything in the universe; every person, every experience is unique.

I had been thinking of him more than usual for a couple of reasons
1. The time of year
2.Going back to my hometown for christmas where we both grew up (seeing old friends etc.

I firmly beleive that what I experienced was more than a visual dream, but it is very difficult to substantiate such a claim.

As an aside my girlfriend (who unfortunately never met rowan) had a dream the nite after where she saw the guy who was involved/responsible for Rowan's death wearing what she describes as a menacing smile. She never saw him either in real life but managed to give me a vague but accurate description of him.

To The Frog, i don't see that as a hijack, it is good to hear from someone with a similar experience.

I couldn't agree more; and Its seems that living humans can benefit for the entirety of humanity's collective experience via the transcendental or transpersonal realm of one's experience on Earth.

My friend Swim had a good friend (W) pass away two days before Xmas.

There was a funeral and a wake. His many friends shed many tears; he had touched so many that the church was over capacity.

This unforeseen event cast a pallor over the group's traditional New Year's Eve party, but they made the best of it. They threw fireworks on the bonfire to create a fiery chariot to take their friend up to heaven; each friend fired a shot from a shotgun into the sky in his honor, and because the gods had offended them.

Near the blazing fire sat a chair. No one sat in this chair all night despite a lack of available seats. Swim had taken a cocktail of psychedelics for the evening; at one point, he saw his dead friend W sitting in the aforementioned chair, W's dead dog lying contentedly at his feet. W smirked at Swim and seemed to say, "Why am I not surprised that you can see me?"

No one sat in the chair all night... because it was W's chair. It wasn't something that was decided beforehand; it just happened.

I personally didn't have such a mystical experience, but I think it is a real possibility.

I strongly believe that a deceased person doesn't just go away forever. I think they keep living somewhere else, and, sometimes, contact the living to transmit a message, make them remember them, etc. I believe that the dead can look into what happens in this world, and, sometimes, contact a living person, during a dream, a mystical experience, a hallucinogen trip, etc.

I never say "Too bad X didn't live to see this". I believe they all still can "look down" on us.

It must be wonderful to "get some attention" from a dead friend in a way similar to grecian's and The Frog's experiences.

many ppl believe so many things they just dont have a clue about ,sure the id is entertaining,, and gives you this being ok with your own mortality but .. do realise this is only a possibility ,and the mind can create lots of powerfull illusions ,, look at all the fairytales we create to enterain it ,,, dont get me wrong that i try to debunk your experiences . i truly belief in mystical experiences but i dont think anyone can say wether its real or not so ,, its real to the person so tahts enough i guess
