For purely research only --
Someone who isn't me wants to know more about the crude everclear extraction method. He understands the basic method of : 1) -- In a jar, add PT powder and everclear. Have everclear cover powder and go up about an inch 2) -- Shake jar periodically over a period of 24 hours, then strain colored alcohol into separate container and repeat until color of everclear doesn't change much 3) -- Disregard powder. Evaporate the liquid collected in step 2 and be left with a material of good alkaloids. Now my questions are: - In general, how many repeats does step 2 take to extract most of the alkaloids and have the everclear not change color much anymore? - What does the final product look like? Can it be equally seperated easily? Is it hard to scrape off -- it is crucial to have it on glass? Many thanks |

Re: Crude Alcohol (Everclear) Extraction Questions
Three times is the charm for extractions.
Yes, get a square glass baking dish. You can either scrape, or add a tiny bit of water to collect. |

Re: Crude Alcohol (Everclear) Extraction Questions
SWIM uses a round cake pan for the evap stage...a razor blade works well. It is VERY sticky...
Heating in the microwave for very short bursts or heating in a hot water bath (no flames!) will get all the alks out quickly. SWIM can complete all extractions with the 3rd almost clear in about 2 hours. IPA 99% works extremely well too. |
