Tanita/Acculab .001's Can't Weigh 1mg ?

Swim just got off the phone with a fellow from a local scale shop. The fellow told him that the acculab vic123 and the tanita 1230 only do 3 gradiations, not 1. He also told swim that when weighing amounts in the >5 mg range, that no scale under 1000$ (except for a couple ohaus ones) will repeat it accurately.

Would swiy agree with this or is this guy full of shit?

I'd agree with that statement. If one wants to accurately measure doses of highly potent substances (i.e. DOC) then they must weigh a larger amount and then proceed to use liquid measurement.

hrmm.. this would have been the one reason swim would have gotten a tanita or acculab over a jennings jsvg. The only complaint swim really hears of the so called cheapie ones are their inaccuracy below 5mg. Now the question becomes, if swim were not plannning on weighing anything lower than 10-15 mg anyways, is the possibility of it really worth the extra $?

There will be deviation in scales, which need to be reckonned with. So 1 mg is not 1 mg. Then there is another aspect: if a scale would be accurate on 1mg then 0.6mg and 1.4 mg would still read 1 mg. So even with an 1mg acurate scale there is a deviation range of roughly .8mg. For the tanita with a 2mg accuracy this means that 1.5mg and 2.4mg would read 2mg, while 2.5mg would read 4mg. This is a very nasty handicap when weighing those substances in the dosage range below 20 mg. Especially if one would want to weigh out bumping dosages.
To accurately weigh milligrams one needs a scale that is accurate on 0.1mg or 0.0001 grams.
Note that these deviations add up when weighing out multiple amounts.

If one adds a small calibration weight, and then add the substance to be weighed, than it should be ver accurate, right?
Ofcourse one would need to have enough space on the weighing plateau of the scale, but that wouldn't be a very big problem with small amounts.

heh yes i Did. Ok so.. it's all futile anyways. After receiving my 5th email from US located scale dealer stating NO SHIPPING TO CANADA...... looks like i'm gonna have to go with a canadian company and pay up the ass for a tanita or acculab, or settle for the jvsg, as it's the only 1 that can be gotten in canada. Every place contacted locally doesn't stock Tanita or Acculab .001's, and want over 400$ CAD to bring one in.. this whole process is making me sick. I blame it all on all the local chops selling the .1G ebay palmscales for over 100$, and all the idiots buying them!

Constantly.... on the rare chance a deal is found (a real deal, not a generic piece of garbage .001 G scale for 15$) it's 1./ Always in the US. And 95% of the time they only ship ups which means duty/brokerage/tax/customs delays. 2./ having a precision digital scale cross the border with all the fkin border terror shite, is probably a good way to get flagged, then once that happens a closer eye will be put on swims chems arriving as well. And of course one would think "the man" would have enough common sense to correlate the 2 to safety, and not to distributing.. but alas.. swiy knows what's up. Ok i'm sending swim out for a run of the local pawn / jeweller shops, hopefully that will yield some luck.
