Cardiac Side Effects of DXM?

A note a stranger in the park asked me to post here:

Quote:
Hey...they past few times Ive done a robotrip, it seems to really affect my heart.

One time, my heart rate sky rocketted so high, my heart started burning, my arm got numb...I panicked, I honestly thought I was going to die. But I layed down, tried to relax and it went away. But for a while after that, my heart hurt. And the next day my heart rate was incredibly high, and I felt faint, dizzy and exhausted. My boyfriend made me go to the doctor..my heart rate was 140, and it is supposed to be around 80.

I took DXM last night..and now my heart is aching the same way, but its at a normal pace. Does anyone else experience this, is it normal? Because of this I dont think I will use DXM anymore, it is pretty scary.

My pet hamster used to use it a lot but quit. One of the reasons was because of what your not is talking about. I posted here before saying that my hamster's heart hurt after doing benadryl, and everytime he tripped on DXM his heart rate would freak out. So he didnt want to risk dying really young from heart problems. So my advice is to try to quit. Also exercise regularly and eat right so your heart is in good shape to do drugs

Forward this to the stranger (a note from somebody who claims to know him):

The reason why your heart will race like that is usually because there is psuedoephedrine in it. It's really scary the first time it happens to you....the first time it happened to my husband, he called me from home and I came home from work thinking I'd have to take him into the hospital. Thankfully we came to the realization of what was causing it, waited it out, and all was good within about 30 minutes.

If you have a keen reaction to ephedrine (keen meaning it doesn't take much for you to feel stimulated), my advice is to get one bottle of cough syrup that has psuedoephedrine in it and one that doesn't, and do a half/half of each to equal one so you don't have the scary heart racing. You'll still have accelerated heart rate, but it won't put you on the floor.
