DRUGS DIARIES SEIZED IN RAID

Police have seized two diaries containing the names and contact details of dozens of suspected drug dealers and users in Hull and the East Riding.



Officers recovered the diaries during an early-morning raid at a flat in Hessle.

They also include information about deals, such as how much individual users owe their dealer and details of drug-running between Hull and Amsterdam.

Officers confirmed many of the names in the diaries were those of juveniles known to them from Hessle and the Boothferry estate area of west Hull.

PC Tracey Le Grove, the officer in charge of the raid, said recovering the diaries was a significant move in the war against drugs.

"The intelligence was right and we are pleased we got what we were looking for," she said.

"Finding these diaries is a rare coup for us. They are so significant to our inquiries because they will give us so much intelligence we otherwise may not have got.

"The message to people is simple: If we think you are dealing, you could be next on our list."

Ten police officers swooped on the flat in Orchard Drive in the early hours of Friday. The diaries were found in a kitchen cupboard.

Officers also found 40 syringes, including four full of liquid amphetamines, and a large quantity of other drug paraphernalia.

Neighbours came outside to watch as a sniffer dog was brought in to help search the property.

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug and being in possession of a controlled drug.

He has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Neighbour Norman Colin, 75, said: "We knew what was going on in there.

"We have even seen people going in through the windows using ladders."

A 63-year-old neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "We were well aware of what was going on in the flat.

"Groups of people were always coming and going and sometimes there would be parties with loud music playing from about 6pm to 9am the next day.

"I actually bought ear plugs in the end because the noise was that bad.

"I'm glad the police have stepped in.

Officers also carried out a raid on an address in Ferriby Road, Hessle.

However, no drugs were seized and no arrests were made.
