Trey Anastasio of Phish Arrested

WHITEHALL, N.Y. -- Former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio faced charges after a traffic stop early Friday in upstate New York.

Police said Anastasio was stopped in Whitehall on Friday at about 3:30 a.m. by a patrolman for failure to keep right.

Police said Anastasio, whose was referred to as Ernest J. Anastasio by officers, had a suspended driver's license in New York and allegedly was found with an assortment of prescription medications prescribed for someone else including hydrocodone, Percocet and Xanax.


Anastasio was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of drugs.

He was issued court appearance tickets and released.

Anastasio, who is pursuing a solo career since Phish broke up, is scheduled to appear at the Palace Theatre in Albany on Dec. 29.

The owner of Nectar's, the Burlington, Vt., bar where the band got its start, had no comment. Calls and e-mails to Anastasio's publicist were not returned.
