Dried Mushrooms = More Feelings of Stress?
Three experiences on B+'s from the same flush:
SWIM ate 24 grams of freshly picked shrooms. It was great. Smooth, trippy, groovy. (Although a med/light dose.) SWIM then ate 2.75 grams of 95% dry shrooms 4 days later. From T+1:00 to T+1:45, SWIM was sweating from the feet and stressed. The stress broke, and the comedown for the next 4 hours was great. SWIM then ate 3 grams of 100% cracker-dry shrooms a week after that. From T+1:00 to T+2:00, SWIM was a wreck. He was exhausted, but wired. He sweated, and yet shivered. A shower didn't help. Just had to twist it out under the magic blanket. Eventually, the stress broke and the comedown was good. (It could have had something to do with eating them at 5:30 AM.) If they were always like this, SWIM wouldn't bother with them. Has anyone else noticed a difference between effects of fresh and dried? |

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
SWIM has never noticed a major difference in effects in regards to dried vs. fresh. Perhaps the come up is slower with the dried variety seeing as the stomach acids will naturally take that little bit longer to break them down and this could lead to a gradual but suddenly intense come up? It's very difficult to tell as every trip is different in a sense. One trip with the exact same batch of shrooms, whether dried or fresh, can be significantly altered. SWIY's best bet would be to continue trying both until he has a string of results that produce a reasonable conclusion.

Most people i know havent really noticed this standing out in their experiences. Just different strains and settings they told me.

Who knows, would never take fresh ones. What a waste, unless maybe smurf had some growing...them damn Smurfs always have something up there sleeves.
Major rolls in the "trip" would be, mind set, environment, what Smurf'et ate/eat, when the last time they did it, how strong the mushrooms are, so fourth. |

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
I don't understand. Why would SWIY never eat fresh mushrooms? They're supposed to be better (fresh psilocyn).
I am thinking that it was probably just what SWIM ate or something. Though they were the same shrooms, the last time was early in the morning and a higher dose. SWIM will have to try some more fresh ones again if he can fit it into his schedule. Last edited by PsychicTraveler; 16-12-2006 at 04:34. |

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
Fresh psilocin? On the contrary: drying converts psilocybin into psilocin. So dry mushrooms have more psilocin and less psilocybin. Note that this statement has total disregard to the many other alkaloids in magic mushrooms.
In other words: fresh magic mushroom may be slightly more activating, while dry magic mushrooms may give a more stoned effect. Other than that it's pretty subjective I'd say. |

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
What I've read is that when shrooms are fresh, they contain psilocybin and psilocin.
As the shroom dries, the psilocin changes to psilocybin. When injested, the psilocybin is changed in the body to psilocin. http://www.shroomery.org/8754/How-do-shrooms-work ...And according to Albert Hoffman in "LSD, My Problem Child," "Psilocybin is the phosphoric acid ester of psilocin and, as such, is the first and hitherto only phosphoric-acid-containing indole compound discovered in nature. The phosphoric acid residue does not contribute to the activity, for the phosphoric-acid-free psilocin is just as active as psilocybin, but it makes the molecule more stable. While psilocin is readily decomposed by the oxygen in air, psilocybin is a stable substance." ...Hinting that it is indeed psilocin that is turned to psilocybin, not the other way around. I tried to find the reference to that specific fact, but I can't seem to track it down now. |

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
Psilocybin is converted to psilocin in body, nowhere this reaction happens the other way. Neither your link or the text from My Problem Child claims that the conversion would be psilocin->psilocybin. The last sentence merely states that psilocin is indeed easily broke down and psilocybin is really stable.

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
What you said is, "Psilocybin is converted to psilocin in body".
What I said is, "When injested, the psilocybin is changed in the body to psilocin." So, what are we discussing now? And no, what's the story on the 115 years? Oh, unless you're speaking to Alfa. In that case, nevermind. Last edited by PsychicTraveler; 23-01-2007 at 23:05. |

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
"As the shroom dries, the psilocin changes to psilocybin." This is what I disagree upon. Psilocin brakes down to other compunds, this is how the shrooms get their bluish color.
I was speaking to Alfa about the 115-year-old mushroom. It is simply a anecdotal example of how stable psilocybin is: it was found in a dried mushroom behind 115 years. |

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
I wish I could find where I read that, but I couldn't. Obviously it doesn't make it fact because it is written, but I wisht I could point to where I read it.
But if psilocin degradation turns shrooms blue, and drying degrades psilocin, then why aren't all dry shrooms blue? |

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
The bluing has yet to be proven as an indicator of potency or psilocin breaking down, although extra bruising or rough handling could cause psilocin to be exposed to more air, which could in turn lower the potency.. Psilocin is the less stable compound, and psilocybin is the more stable, and they are commonly both found in many psilocybe mushrooms.. Proper quick drying, no heat, and proper storage can help retain much of the psilocin in the shrooms.. Fresh can be more intense but they, also, take much more weight to eat as the shrooms are roughly 90% water..

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
The differences SWIY experiences are probably because he doesn't wait long enough between his trips. Swim also did that when he discovered mushrooms, but now he learned that he should wait at least 3 weeks to get the same effect again.

Re: Drier Shrooms Means More STRESS feeling?
what are the other alkaloiids in mushrooms? everybody always talks about different experiences indd,, but what is realy different ,alkaloid content >psilocin psilocibin ?set ?setting ? or do certain strains realy contain a different mix of alkaloids like some cacti species do or is it more uniform,, swim has noticed difference with dosage mainly and strains indd ,, but somehow there is a whole bunch of the experience thats similar too ,, so swim is more inclined into thinking its all dose related,
