Police seize $4M in drugs from apartment

WINNIPEG (CBC) - A drug seizure in a Winnipeg apartment turned up crack cocaine, marijuana and ecstasy with an estimated street value of up to $4 million, police said.
Sgt. Rick Guyader said Thursday that police executed a warrant late Tuesday afternoon at an apartment on Thames Avenue in the city's Elmwood neighbourhood.

Along with about one kilogram of marijuana, two kilograms each of powder and crack cocaine and several hundred ecstasy tablets, officers also seized other powders, handguns, ammunition and wads of cash.

Guyader said the drugs, in their current condition, are valued at about $163,000, but that value can go up substantially on the street.

"This is very large," Guyader said Thursday.

"This would be a higher-level dealer. Once all these drugs are stepped on and broken down to street levels, the amounts and probably a rough estimate we did the other day would be closer on the street to $4 million."

Steven Wayne Prance, 21, was charged Tuesday with several drug and weapons charges, including possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possessing proceeds of crime.

Prance has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

Police allege the drug operation was directly connected to Asian organized crime.
