Hundreds of pounds of marijuana were found by narcotics agents after a shootout Wednesday morning.
One man was taken to jail, another was taken to a hospital and several others were on the run Wednesday night.
The shootout happened on New Mathis road in South Bexar County.
Sheriff's deputies say a drug deal was supposed to happen at a home in the area. They believe one of the participants wasn't planning on paying for the drugs.
"I would definitely bet it was a transaction that was going to be a rip," said Sgt. Ron Tooke with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
Some people living near the home heard gun shots and called deputies. When deputies arrived, people began to run from the home.
That is when investigators found 500 pounds of marijuana expertly packed and ready for shipment inside a truck parked at the house.
"This is some real good stuff," said Sgt. Tooke. "I've never seen it wrapped like that and bundles and roped up like that. It's part of a bigger load."
Deputies say several men from Laredo were involved, as well as at least two men from Chicago.
Deputies had an Illinois-plated SUV towed from the property.
"We intend on following the (marijuana) and see where it goes," said Sgt. Tooke.
The suspect taken into custody was expected to be charged late Wednesday.
The man that was taken to the hospital was hurt when he tried to escape from the home.
Deputies say they are not sure how this all fits together. They say the two men in custody are not cooperating with the investigation. The marijuana has a street value of approximately $200,000 here in San Antonio and about $1 million in Chicago.
