Experiences - Lorazepam and Alprazolam Comparison

SWIM loves the effect he gets from 3-4 mg of alprazolam. The effect he gets is similiar to a high dose of alcohol, he gets a very drunk feeling and a little amnesia. SWIM's prescription was recently switched from 2 mg alprazolam PO TID to 1 mg lorazepam PO TID. SWIM has tried taking up to 8 mg of lorazepam, and all he feels is a wave of drowsiness and some memory loss. Is it possible to get the effects the alprazolam gave from the lorazepam? Does SWIM need to increase the dosage, maybe switch the route of administration? Or does lorazepam just not offer the drunken stupor that alprazolam does?

Most if not all benzodiazepines feel different, so no mather what dose SWIY might try, he'll probaply won't experience the same "feel" as with alprazolam.

Lorazepam is an evil benzo ISO. First time he took 4mg with no effect so he took another 6mg with half bottle of rum and can't remember anything. He ended up in the cells for the weekend with 10 charges against him 2 of which were assault charges. He's paying for it now and cries himself to sleep most nights. He lost his girlfriend because of that night and could have really badly hurt his loved ones. Be very careful with this drug it might not feel like its doing anything but trust swim it is. Swim will never do this benzo again.

swim has tried many benzo's. Lorazepam is his favorite. The reason swim likes them is because when he takes enough he kind of trips. well i wouldn't really call it a trip but it is kind of like a deleriant(without sucking as much). He ends up seeing shadow people and talking nonsense to nobody like a waking dream(I think that is what it is called). This is normally when alcohol is included. He has done xanax more times then he can remember and is sick of them, unless its to get the edge off from stimulants. Lorazepam is different and that makes it good in swims book. Well, about a year ago swim woke up in a jail cell after drinking and taking xanax. So it isnt just lorazepam that can do that too you. It is downers(alcohol) on top of downers(benzos) that gets you in trouble. To oggy sorry to hear about that it happens when you least expect it, but don't get down on yourself everything will straighten out. The amnesia SWIM gets from lorazepam is weird, he forgets what happened, but if someone tells him what happened he remembers doing it. With alprazolam amnesia, SWIM will rarely remember anything.

Yes, most docs ween there patients off of benzos by switching to less addictive one, to ease the withdrawal. SWIdr has found lorazepam to be good for getting to sleep, and thats basically it. If SWIdr were SWIY, he would ask your doc to switch SWIY to clonazepam, or possibly back to alprazolam. And yes, SWIpsyc0naut is correct, even if you were to take alot of lorazepam, it wouldnt feel much like alprazolam. There are ways to potentiate benzos' effects, ie grapefruit juice, alcohol, downers and the like. But do NOT combine any drugs without thorough knoledge on the subject, and BE CAREFUL.
