Ego loss and development of another self.
During a recent mushroom trip, swim contemplated the concept of ego loss. While he has yet to experience it, ego loss is something which he is looking forward to undergoing, and he has been preparing for it. Now during the comedown, SWIM had some an insight and was wondering if anyone has any input. SWIM hasn't completely grasped the concept yet and doubt he will until he has experienced, but he wonders:
When someone experiences ego loss, is it possible to begin to develop another persona before they return to their true self? And if so will this second ego stay with them when they return to their original self (in effect having multiple personalities)? Or is ego loss so overwhelming, disorienting and confusing that they have little time to begin to develop anew? |

Re: Ego loss and development of another self.
Its ego loss not ego exchange. What swiy expirence's will probably stay with swiy and may change swiy's idea's, belief's, or perception's but not so much as to develope an alter ego.

Re: Ego loss and development of another self.
In SWIM's experience, it is possible, but it is difficult and possibly very stressful (some fear ego loss like they fear death.) To achieve a new ego, though, SWIY must be aware of the process itself, and direct this progress accordingly.
Shrooms hardly stay with you though, they rarely have a lasting impact of any kind, besides another crazy experience floating through your memories. LSD, on the other hand, is very potent in the matter, many of the suggestions will linger on for a long time afterwards. The trick is to make them productive and progressive suggestions. A complete and permanent change of ego is possible, but ego itself is only how you see yourself, and this is a process than can be achieved with or without psychedelics, meditation has been working on the matter for thousands of years. Enlightenment, how I see it, and to simplify it immensely, is when you stop seeing things as you want to see them and see them as they really are. The ideal and ultimate ego is truth. |

They cway in which I believe one truly loses their ego is by a series of rituals that one undertakes sub-consciously. Drug use is just a catalyst in my opinon.

Re: Ego loss and development of another self.
A good way to characterized ego loss is as: the diffusion of one's ego unto the collective identity. persons loss pride in their false of sense of individuality, and divert that energy into pleasure concerning: all persons of all time are the same, yet we all can express our personal connected with the life-giving force in different and unique ways. i think CG Jung described it as our individuated experience.
Trebor. Dig. Psychedelics (pilocybin cont. mushrooms?)... very likely The Catalyst |
