Does anyone know of any possible negative pharmaceutical interactions that could occur when mixed with Kratom? Specifically SSRI's but I'd like to know any others if possible.

Re: Possible negative pharmaceutical interactions?
In particular, other CNS depressants can have an additive or synergistic effect. This includes benzodiazepines, opiates, sedative/hypnotics and a number of other substances. At higher doses or mixes of 3+ substances, SWIM thinks it could be unsafe.
Also, some stimulants don't mix well with kratom (anxiety, agitation, fast heartbeat) and there's a theoretical potential for lowered seizure threshold. In practice, SWIM has had little trouble with most stimulants + kratom. Wellbutrin and high dose caffeine seem to mix poorly, that's about it so far. |

Re: Possible negative pharmaceutical interactions?
Well, SWIM can testify to negative interactions with stimulants and hallucinogenics, mostly panic attacks, anxiety and rapid, pounding heartbeat. It seems to be an unpredictable and very abrupt reaction when it happens, and fortunately does not last very long. SWIM has found that normally this happens when relatively high doses are used, and has stopped happening since SWIM has developed a tolerance.
Sedatives mix fine and SWIM has not noticed any strong synergy, though caution should be exercised since SWIM has a high natural tolerance to sedatives and alcohol. |

Re: Possible negative pharmaceutical interactions?
Agreed, Snapper. Bongo & Co. came to the conclusion that the "freak-out rate" with the DOx compounds were directly related to the amphetamine bridge on the molecule. The reaction was initially observed in monkeys who would use speed and psychedelics together in the 1960's.
Some parts of Tom Wolfe's "Electric Kool-Ade Acid Test" seems to bear this out as well. Most veteran tripper's tend to shun the combination to this day. And regard the DOx molecules with everything from suspicion to outright derision. But not all...come back here, Bongo!! |

Tangent: Stimulants and psychedelics. Extrapolation to kratom effects with stimulants. and subjective conciousness reactions ala snapper. Swerve right to Alfa bridge and turn left to kratom roadway. Now turn....?
