CitiGroup exec busted for meth manufacture

or...

you never know who you might be talking to on a chemistry forum!

Quote:
December 1, 2006 -- The trailer-park drug known as "hillbilly crack" has been putting on the Ritz lately - as federal drug agents uncovered a crystal-meth lab inside the $6,000-a-month Manhattan penthouse of a bank executive, authorities said yesterday.

Michael Knibb, an information-technology vice president at Citigroup, ran the sophisticated drug operation from the living room of his luxury apartment overlooking the United Nations, said Drug Enforcement Administration officials.

The 37-year-old Knibb - who makes an estimated $250,000 a year - allegedly told authorities that he had decided to make his own methamphetamines because he could not find a reliable drug dealer after moving to New York from Seattle two years ago.

Knibb was one of 10 alleged do-it-yourself drug makers busted this week as part of a federal anti-meth sweep dubbed Operation Red Fusion.

Yesterday was National Methamphetamine Awareness Day.

The arrests were made after each of the suspects allegedly bought meth-making chemicals from the same Internet sites.

None of the suspects were major dealers, and most just made enough for their own use, according to the DEA.

Knibb wasn't the only suspect whose profile didn't fit the image of the typical meth producer.

Another suspect is Mehmetcan Dosemeci, a Columbia University doctoral student, who told cops he mixed and used the stimulant to boost his studying, officials said.

Dosemeci, a native of Turkey, is a Fulbright scholar and a graduate instructor at the school.

He was busted after he allegedly made the boneheaded mistake of going online to get one of the prime meth ingredients, iodine crystals, and having it sent to his Manhattan Avenue apartment.

DEA agents raided his home in October. The history student might have also gone far in chemistry, since DEA officials said the 1.3 grams of meth they found had a purity of 98 percent.

"It's just not as it seems at the moment. It's a big misunderstanding," Dosemeci said at his apartment yesterday.

He and Knibb were free on $150,000 bail.

Way to pick on the little guys. Fucking rediculous. Glad my tax dollars are going to some use rather then for donuts and coffee. Jesus, I believe the DEA could spend more time fighting other more important things than some recreational users. It's pretty bad that all they can do is make some little petty busts for meth awareness day. I mean if I was them I would make it a point to make a huge bust on that day to make myself look good. All this is doing is making it look like they aren't doing shit and just making a few small busts to make it look like they are actually doing their job. Maybe they can actually learn a lesson from this. Not every drug user is the stereo typed trailer trash ass pounder criminal that they always make these people out to be. Instead there are some users who are highly intelligent up standing individuals of our community. I guess they will never come out and directly say that because they want to paint this horrific image of what a meth user is.

I'm not saying that meth users will not have a cause and effect. All I'm pissed off about is how the government portrays substance users.

Exactly! I can't believe they said they found a whole 1.3 grams of meth that's '98% pure'. Who gives a fuck, go after the guy pushing 100 pounds, not 1.3 grams

Re: CitiGroup exec busted for meth manufacture

Swim had a talk with a professor about drugs before, and meth was one of the topics discussed. The prof said that back when he was in college in the 60's people would be cooking up meth in their dorm rooms (the vast majority of them even) to use similarly to how adderall is used by college students presently. Sort of interesting how people can't draw the connections between use of amphetamines for euphoric pleasure and use for work or academically related reasons, especially considering how many kids are being prescribed adderall or methylphenidrate at increasingly younger ages.

Makes ya wonder if the ratio of high income Meth dependant users to coke dependant ones is going through a different trend.

Re: CitiGroup exec busted for meth manufacture

If you ever use "hard" drugs like meth you will become a homeless, despondent junkie. Oh wait, except when you're a bank vice president making six figures a year. Meth will ruin your life, but only because your tyrannical government will go out of their way to make your world a living hell.

Wow good fucking job busting a guy who's probably contributed more to society than every single DEA agent combined. It will be really great when this guy's in prison costing the taxpayers huge amounts of money, rather than just continuing to be a productive member of society. We better throw him in jail though, don't want any examples of people disputing the government sponsored propoganda. I love how the goddamn slanted media tries to distort this from what it really is, which is evidence that these drugs can be used by responsible citizens, into some scare tactic yellow journalism story about panic over how the next demon drug is about to destroy middle class society (no different than what we heard with crack in the 80s, pot in the 70s and LSD in the 60s).

Also how the fuck does that prick DEA agent even ascertain that one in six meth labs blow up. Where the hell would you even get the sample for that?

Re: CitiGroup exec busted for meth manufacture

The guy got caught for cooking meth in an apartment building! What a jackass......I don't feel sorry for him AT ALL!

To go against some of the above post, unfortunately the irresponsible users outnumber the responsible users when it comes to any drug. Just another case of the bad apples ruinning it for the good apples.....

I'm sorry, but I side with the government on this case....
