Smoking - brillo pad / choreboy + crack pipe discussion

SWIM usually smokes crack from a home madepipe/bong (baby food jar+pen+chore boy brillo). due to its size, decided to try somthing smaller so got one of those glass tubes with the rose in it.
problem is.. everytime swim takes a hit,it leaves avery nasty in the mouth. there also some heat, but guess thats normal? for sure it is not the glass pipe or the crack. 99% sure its the brillo, using the chore boy brand. did burn the brillo good to clean it, and rinsed it off and dried it.


some question:


1. When inserting the chore boy/brillo... is it suppose to be forces into the pipe where i see no light though it? or is it suppose to go through easily?


2. How deep does the chore boy/brillo have to be in the pipe?


3. How close is "too close" where the flame is suppose to be?


and my last question...


are there any other ways to smoke crack without using a brillo pad? or is it...for the best hit (feeling), a brillo pad is a must?

How to make a Crack Pipe

here i will copy and paste mine over:


Alright u want to know how to make a choy? I'll explain it even though USING THE SEARCH ENGINE would tell the same thing i'll tell u here.


Go to your local convience store/gas station and buy a rose in a tube. Take the ends off (cork ends), and throw the rose out the window (or give it to your girl when your geeking). Take a brillo pad and cut a square out (start with a 1x1) or any size. then find something that will fit down the middle of the stem from both ends, say a small dowel (wooden or what ever)... take the brillo, hold it with some pliers and light it on fire, burn it until red hot, and then let cool, rinse off... dry it. Then push it in, repeat until you have enough brillo in the stem so when u look through the pipe u cant see light comming through. the less light the better. On the end where you will put the rock push it down about |--| that much, maybe less. Take your rock, put it in, light the rock and melt it into the brillo, dont hit the rock straight. By melting the crack into the brillo you are burning off most of the impurites and letting the crack go to the brillo. Then Take the rip lighting the lighter and sucking the flame so it touches the brillo.


There ya have it your geeking begins

1) when inserting the brillo, dont do it in such large chunks that your pushing a 4"x4" square down a 1" round hole.

2) I would say only enough to put your hit in the end, maybe a little extra but, dont put it 1/2 way down your choy.

3)I assume when you are smoking crack you dont put the crack in the end of the choy, put your mouth on the other end, light and suck. The way to do it is to put the crack in the end, hold a lighter to the crack to melt it into the choy and burn off impurities, and then to take your hit, take a hit of the brillo. The more u melt into your brillo the bigger/stronger your hit will be.

did everything right... but still gets that nasty taste. i tried burning the brillo long and one not so long.. same taste. its like the Chore boy is burning (when putting the flame close or far from the brillo).


or is the chore boy too thin and burns too easy?

SWIM knows exactly what you're talking about.... SWIM learned that lotion, or anything like that that could be on your hands may be on the pipe. Rinse everything very well. Wash the glass tube like 3 times first. Rinse it GOOD! Be careful not to place a hot pipe on anything plastic. Plastic is gross. Do not stick anything that could melt and be nasty in the pipe. Basically just keep it away from nasty chemicals and plastic....

swim finds when he smokes with wire wool it goes very quickly, and he does not get it all.
Swim has used a wire wool pipe with some crack head and it worked great, but never seems to be the same at home

Is the brillo aluminum, or is it copper? this could be part of your problem

SWIM sent me these answers to post:

(1) Should go through easily, then pack it down with a screwdriver or piece of coat hanger. Should be 1/4 to 1/2" thick and able to still pull air easily thru the end yet thick enough to allow the stuff to melt in deeply.
(2) Should be just enough below the lip to allow a rock to sit on it without falling off easily. Maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch below the lip. SWIM says try melting the rock into the brillo before hitting, see which method you like better.
(3) Doesn't matter, just tell the guy to pull SLOW and easy. If he wonders if he's getting smoke, puff the end like a cigar a couple times.
(4) Yes, but brillo works the best, just the right thickness of copper. He can also strip some copper wire (NOT STEEL), cut it off, tangle it together and use that. Tends to clog easily tho and doesn't work nearly as well. According to SWIM there are other methods/materials, but they all pretty much suck sh*t and end up wasting the goodies.Edited by: Nicaine

my brillo is copper.

Oh P.S. be sure to "cook" the brillo thoroughly with a lighter before inserting in the pipe for the first time, or you get poisoned by copper fumes. You should see a crapload of smoke come off it, keep cooking until it's glowing red hot & there's no more smoke. Rinsing it after "cooking" is optional.

If copper wire is used, "cooking" is a good idea to but not critical.

i have tried cooking it alot and a little, but i still have that nasty taste to it.

SWIM says until it's glowing red hot & there's no more smoke coming off it... final answer. Worried about nasty taste, go ahead rinse & let it dry afterward then.

i use silver pipe screens balled up into a tight little plug.


brillo pad is a wad of copper wire, used as a screen in crack stems.

a brillo pad is the wire pad that is used to scrub off baked on grime and crap... just so happens when set up right it makes a good crack screen. Most of the time i have heard of this being used in choy's aka the rose in the tube that you can buy at most convience stores.

Swim thinks that Chore Boy is defiantly the best brand by far.


Swim has used both stainless and copper and had the best results with Chore.

Swim is an idiot, he much prefers a pop can with some ash to a pipe with brillo. I guess it's because he can actually get a hit off it. Yesterday him and his buddy got a costly rock and smoked through a homemade pipe with the brillo or whatever it's called. THe one guy is getting monster hits meanwhile Swim is trying multiple times and wasting all the shit. SWIM would like to know exactly how to use a pipe with brillo, how hard to suck/where to keep the flame/ ect. Otherwise he likes crack...a lot.

Smoking out of a can is wasting, man. When using a straight shooter with brillo or chore boy the rock should be placed in the pipe while holding it at an upward angle. The flame should first be placed under the pipe, not in it. When the rock starts to vaporize, start sucking and slowly bring the pipe downward so the liquified rock inches back toward the tip of the pipe. Bring your flame inside now and toke it. You'll get a monster crack hit.

Toke Hard?? He tries to breath smooth and very lighty, just enough to suck the flame into the pipe, this is burning the crack and not making smoke...so, should he inhale hard or softly??\

you dont need to hit it incredibly hard, the best is just to take a long smooth hit, continuous strength sometimes hitting slightly harder towards the end of the hit before youir out of breath, then hold till ya catch that buzz and exhale. rediculous.

Thanks for the suggestions, swim has been using this neat-o steamroller he got a few weeks ago. It works alright but he still just feels he's not getting as much from the bits as he could. Like, .25 for a good hit, with no second hit left! : ( Sometimes, he can get it red, and smoking even when the lighter's off, this is only occomplished half the time, I'm thinking he may just be a stingy brat.
