Yes, denver did pass a law legalizing mj in "small quantities" in city
limits. However, it does say that federal law prohibits mj in any form and can and will still be punishable by law. Only thing all the phychonauts and the cannabis heads are missing is that every "drug" regardless of it's status will become illegal. Think about it. Despite how many people want drugs to be legal...the simple truth is that with popularity comes legislation. That is why in the 60's and early 70's, all "popular drugs" at the time were deemed illegal. That is what drives the economy in the US. Everyone is still going the route of "alchohol and cannibis", but as psychodelics become more popular in this day in age, they too...regardless of legal status now will become illegal. Ever since southpark aired a show about DXM, cough syrup has been regulated. Think about it. |

My ideal society is one in which all drugs are legally available. In reality this will probably never happen, but it is likely that soft drugs (e.g. marijuana, mushrooms) will be legalized someday. In my ideal society, there would be drug shops set up across the nation run by individuals which have earned a drug-selling license. These shops would sell the myriad of drugs out there; maybe even alcohol and tobacco products...or specialty products, like potka or special brownies. You would have to be 21 or older to be allowed to purchase anything, and you would need a driver's license or some other unique form of identification with you for every purchase. If cocaine, heroin, or other dangerous drugs (very easy to abuse) were to be made available, safe limits could be placed on the amount you are allowed to purchase within certain time intervals. Those with criminal records showing bad behavior (violence, or whatever else) would not be allowed to buy any hard drugs. If these people were to violate the law by obtaining a hard drug, both they and their providor would be severely punished. Does this sound at all plausible? |

sometihng like you are suggesting would cause a lot of problems. drugs
should not be available to the public. a lot of people would become addicted to heroin and cocaine, a lot of people would take strong mind bending drugs and have psychotic breakdowns and jump out windows. everything should be available by prescription. psychedelics should be available to anyone who wants to explore them and has passed a test to demonstrate their mental heatlh. people with family histories of schizophrenia or bi polar disorders or other mentla health issues should not be prescribed psychedelic drugs for recreational use. as far as very addictive drugs they should be provided for those who are employed and succeeding in life enough that their habit will not destroy their chance of havign a good life. the prescription would be revoked if their life started falling apart. marijuana should be available to virtually anybody. this is starting to happen with medical pot clubs in california and is really causing no problems. the DEA would still exist to regulate the natural black market that would be created for prescription cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, benzodiazepines and whatever else could be sold to addicts who could not get their prescriptions. alcohol would be regulated the same way as other drugs. this is the most responsible way i can think of to end the drug war without getting all of americas youthaddicted to drugs. organized crime would be gone and people could have an even handed education about drugs. |
