a friend from usa asked me about the availability of dilaudid etc in uk

an american friend of mine was wondering about the availability in the uk of prescription opiates such as dilaudid and percocet etc as swim has many friends in the usa who talk of them constnatly but has never heard of them being used in the uk. are they not used over here or are they hard to come by unless you have a very specific reason for needing them?

Re: a friend from usa asked me about the availability of dilaudid etc in uk

Pain killers are less easily prescribed in the UK than in the USA it would appear. The usual UK system for pain killers tends to be as follows:
Acetaminophen
Codeine
Tramadol
Pethadine
Morphine

In the UK we tend not to use Hydrocodone. And especially not Hydromorphone (dilaudid) or Oxycodone (Percocet). These are more commonly prescribed in the states. There are still occasions where chronic cancer patients and the such will be prescribed them.

As to availability to Prescription narcotics, i cant say much more than if one requires pain relief the NHS is very good at providing that relief through medication.
