Milk Thistle Silymarin- could it extend a high?

SWIM has recently had a bout of the "Oh no I'll regret taking all these drugs when I'm older" and " Oh no I'm destroying all my organs (or at least a few important ones) and will be living in a hospital allot sooner than i would hope"

SWIM is pretty sure his fears are irrational as he is pretty safe and tends to plan and research his intended enjoyments, but the fears still caused him to buy some drugs- Milk thistle. It seemed appropriate as it helps the liver and SWIMs indulgences usually end up being in the form of pills and booze individually and occasionally in moderation together, which both put a heavy load on the liver.

the packet the milk thistle pills (active ingredient silymarin) came in states that silymarin acts as a gate keeper to the liver only allowing a certain quantity of toxins to enter the liver for it to deal with.

SWIM wonders if this means if he were to take a few of these tablets before drinking alcohol or dropping pills, would it mean that the high would last longer on the basis that the drugs would be flowing in his blood for a longer period of time in higher quantities than if the liver had filtered them out?

On the same basis would taking higher amounts of milk thistle further decrease the livers function?

posted here because of the wide variety of drugs that the liver filters out and so any info might be relevant to.

Re: Milk Thistle Silymarin- could it extend a high?

Milk thistle does not inpede liver metabolism. Rather it protects liver cells by coating certain receptors (apoptotic receptors) and preventing them from committing suicide under stress. I believe silymarin also functions as a direct antioxidant at cell membranes as well. It has also been shown to protect other cell types, like kidneys, but it will not extend any highs.

Re: Milk Thistle Silymarin- could it extend a high?

SWIM assumes that if silymarin limited the amount of stuff entering the liver that it would be in existence flowing through the body in the blood longer.
thank you for clarifying Silymarins true action, much appreciated
