seroquel (Quetiapine) have dissociative side effects?

First: Swim knows everyone just can not wait to jump on this thread and preach about how worthless this drug is recreationally and swim agree's. Serquel has no recreational value at all and can be a dangerous drug. And swim knows this drug, next to datura, is taboo.
Swim knows that Seroquel is used to treat mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and even as a sleeping aid. But to be more spacific it is used to TREAT disscoiative disorders.
Swim's question is could this drug CAUSE a disscoiative state much like that of datura. This is not a just wondering question, it happend to swim over the week end. Symptoms such as smoking citgarttes that vanish in mid hit, talking to people that were not there. He said all seemed normal But these oddities. Swim did not give him much but it was enough to do something, he was tired and swim thought it would help. Swim hopes everyones natural hate for this drug will tolorate an answer for his question.

Re: seroquel have dissociative side effects?

SWIM's answer is yes. He has not experienced this drug firsthand, but he observed a lab rat ingest 200 mg of seroquel. 2-3 hours later the lab rat was crawling on the floor, barely able to walk on his own. The lab rat commented that he was "unable to distinguish dream from reality". This sounds like a characteristic of the datura-like dissociative state. The lab rat commented that things appeared that were not there, and was very sluggish and had trouble even figuring out how to download music on a computer.

Had SWIM known the effects would be like this he would have warned the lab rat first, but it sounds like what SWIY went through is not unusual, its a wacky drug to begin with and in SWIM's belief capable of causing a dissociative state.

Re: seroquel have dissociative side effects?

seroquel is capable of causing a dissociative state. In a state of dreaming while awake. Snorting it will cause hallucinations but will also kill you so its not advised. it depends on what dose SWIY is on. When swim was on 300mgs, it would take 600-900mgs to cause that state. swim wouldnt recommend that high amount unless swiys tolerance is built up to high doses like 300mgs. If swiy is on say 100mgs then try 300mgs, or on 50mgs then try 150-200mgs and so on. it is still dangerous as it will cause your blood sugar to drop dramatically. but in Swims experience, it was a fun 2-3 hours.

Re: seroquel have dissociative side effects?

Interesting swia thought dissociated was like drugs like ketamine, and dxm where you are not psychology there as in ego loss or body-less. Datura she thought caused delirium where you are there but have and cause true life hulunacations and pretty fucked in general. Not thats she can see her self doing this or recommending it.

Re: seroquel have dissociative side effects?

The deliriants (or anticholinergics) are a special class of dissociatives which are antagonists for the acetylcholine receptors (unlike muscarine and nicotine which are agonists of these receptors). Deliriants are distinct from classical hallucinogens in that users will have conversations with people who aren't there, or become angry with a 'person' mimicking their actions, not realizing it is their own reflection in a mirror (a situation which could be dangerous if they became aggressive towards a glass mirror). The anticholinergics have effects akin to sleepwalking (particularly in that the subject has poor recall of the experience).

A dissociative is a drug which reduces (or blocks) signals to the conscious mind from other parts of the brain, typically, but not necessarily, limited to the physical senses. Such a state of sensory deprivation and dissociation can facilitate self exploration, hallucinations, and dreamlike states of mind which may resemble some psychedelic mindstates. Essentially similar states of mind can be reached via contrasting paths—psychedelic or dissociative. That said, the entire experience, risks and benefits are markedly different.
The primary dissociatives are similar in action to phencyclidine (PCP), and include ketamine and dextromethorphan. Also included are nitrous oxide (laughing gas), salvia divinorum, and muscimol from the amanita muscaria (fly agaric) mushroom.

There swim proved swiy right and swim wrong. Swim should have asked does seroquel have deliriant side effects. sorry. Although for arguements sake all deliriant's are dissociative's.

Re: seroquel have dissociative side effects?

I can attest to seroquels dissociative side effects as well. Also I had the same trouble with movies on high dose. I remember I watched Saw and it was terrible quality and skipped probably 10 times a minute. I thought it went fluently and couldn't understand or remember the plot. I also remember parts of the movie int he wrong order.
Also getting stuck in a dream-state or seeing things that are not there, are common reactions to seroquel. It may seem ironic that an anti-psychotic does this, but we are not far enough advanced in nuerochemistry to have true anti-psychotic medications. They alter the specific parts of your brain believed to be responsible for psychosis, but on a general level. It seems to swim that perhaps in the future people will have medicines tailored to them. This would give psych community and pharma corporations more merit as well. I think once this happens side effects from drugs will decrease by about half. Also, out of curiosity, did anyone else have the same type of movie recalling troubles while on seroquel. I had thought it was just me, but seeing pillz mention it makes me wonder if that is more common.

Re: seroquel have dissociative side effects?

One time SWIM discovered two 200mg Seroquel samples in his medicine cabinet. They had been there for a while but he never really paid them much notice. He thinks they were most likely left there by a family member who was a recovering alcoholic and opiate addict.

One day SWIM decided to find out what these strange pills in his medicine cabinet were, and after reading up on them for a while he decided he would give one a try. The first time he took one 200mg and he says it was pretty uncomfortable. Within an hour he went from completely lucid to basically a zombie. It hit him very hard and he couldn't stay awake at all, so he passed out. He decided that it was a bad idea to take that much, so he chose to break the second pill up into 50mg pieces.

This is where it gets interesting. For the next few days he took the pieces at random, and an hour or two later he would take a long nap. During these naps SWIM had the most intensely vivid dreams he has ever had in his life. SWIM is someone who doesn't normally dream very much, but he says that these dreams were absolutely incredible, much like the ones he had on his first DXM trip, but more grounded in reality. He could even wake up and go to the bathroom or get a drink, and upon returning to sleep, resume the dream somewhere near where it left off.

For the most part SWIM would agree that Seroquel could have some form of dissociative side effects.

Re: seroquel have dissociative side effects?

Swim had been on seroquel for around seven months. It seemed to cause dissasociative states and hallucinations. It also caused incredible and intense dreams swim was having them every night. If it werent for the weird side effects and sedation it might have been a good one to take, but it seemed to have withdrawel and caused a sleep dependance on the drug. Swim had a lot of trouble getting off of the drug without the help of another one. As for recreational purposes, it does cause you to dissasociate somewhat.. When on it, swim could not get off it...it also can cause suicidal tendancies and depression. If you arent allergic to it then it would be ok in low doses. People use it for insomnia. The best thing about seroquel is that it causes you to have intense dreams. Swim wouldn't advise swiy to experiment with one because there are some risks.

Re: seroquel have dissociative side effects?

SWIM has been on and off Seroquel for many years. He has Bi-polar disorder. He has tried to overdose on this medication a few times. Taking between 600-1,200mg. At 600-900mg he would just seem very sick, and time would seem skippy. At 1,200mg breathing felt repressed, and SWIM was sure he would finally die, but, alas, he survived and woke up 12 hours later, with a terrible hang-over. So from SWIMs expereince, it is not a deleriant or dissassociative, SWIM has experience with both of those as well.

SWIM was taking 1000 mg of Seroquel every night. All it did was make him sleep. It's dumb.

Swim would like to point out that he has in fact snorted seroquel and it did not kill him this is with other drugs in the mix swim would estimate 100mg of seroquel and valium with another drug swim doesnt know the pharmaceutical name of. More on the topic of the thread swim has also encountered this discousitive state on seroquel but would not relate it to datura or even diphen its a far more relaxed controlled state than either of those.

Re: seroquel (Quetiapine) have dissociative side effects?

SWIM took 900mg last night, and though everyone says it cant be used recreationally but SWIM felt quite a nice, mellow high with mild hullucinations and enhanced appretiation of music. So for SWIM it did have a recreational effect. But thats just his expirence.

SWIM wouldnt go out and buy these, there not that good, but when they are being precribed for free, its ok if theres nothing else lying around.

Re: seroquel (Quetiapine) have dissociative side effects?

SWIM was recently prescribed Seroquel to treat bipolar disorder and anxiety. SWIM was started on 50mg the only effects that could be seen were that he became drowsy.

Three days later it was raised to 100mg and the same effects were gained with no extra effects noted.

A week later it was upped to 200mg and SWIM can only say that the effect gained was drowsiness along with decreased mind activity. SWIM tried taking 400mg to see if any extra effects were gained. Fortunately the same effects were gained aswell as a side effect of increased heart rate. SWIM believes that this medicine is somewhat effective but will discontinue use as he feels it isn't good for long term treatment.

SWIM feels that smoking Marijuana is a better substitute to treat Bipolar and anxiety.
