Question Moldy Mushrooms and Potency Loss?

so...SWIM recently recieved the benefits of SWIM's hunting spree. they had a plastic shopping bag filled with fresh psylocybin mushrooms approxomatley 4 inches diameter on average some smaller. SWIM placed themin a small tupperware and vacummed out the air with SWIM's mothers freezedry vacuum sealer which we use for freezing meats and other perishables. SWIM assumed the lack of air would prevent any mold that might grow between the night SWIM sealed them and the night SWIM planned on taking them (one week after they were picked) however unfortunatley when SWIM oppened up the bag there was what looked like cobwebsattached underneath the caps and to the side of the stems The best way SWIM can describe how they looked is like the corner of a room in an old house with a thick cobweb in it.

Of course this detered SWIM from eating them but SWIM was not going to be turned off of what otherwise seemed to be perfectly fine mushrooms. So SWIM decided to brush the unidentified moldy cobweb off and went on to mash up the mushrooms in a cheese cloth in preperation for the tea making process
SWIM made the tea and split it half and half with a good friend. This was roughly 10 wild musroom stems and caps smashed and boiled in water. However due to the fright of parental interference the cheesecloth filled with luscious psilocybin juices was tossed before properly being wrung out into the tea. Reguardless SWIM and his friend finished off the tea and entered into a realm of something that was not a mushroom trip. effects took 30 minutes to kick in. Everything was disconnected and slow and confusing. It showed signs of a mushroom trip however visual and auditory hallucinations where extremly limited. As described the trip sounds more like PCP high but it was much more relaxed then this

In the end (6 or 7 hours later) SWIM felt tired
Does anyone know what this moldy stuff was? Is that what caused the rather disappointing but not awful experience? or was it just due to impotent brewing process? I would appreciate any answers you have for me.

Re: mold question

Sounds like SWIY ate some cobweb mold... It's failry harmless, and should be easily rinsed off.. One could rinse em with peroxide, as this kills cobweb, but even water would probably do the trick..

In the future, instead of keeping fresh shrooms in a sealed container, one would do better to keep them laying out, as they'll slowly dry.. A paper bag can also be used, as long as it gets a bit of airflow, not sealed.. SWIY could also throw them in front of a fan, and let them dry, if they want to preserve them.. Also, putting some damp rid or dri-rite into a sealable container putting a screen over it, and laying almost dried mushrooms on the screen, then sealing the container can help to get out the very last bit of moisture in more humid climates.. Cracker dry is best for storage..

SWIM is 100% sure that the mold had nothing to do with SWIY's trip, and anything weird SWIY felt, was most likely to them being unsure of what they ingested.. Everything SWIY described, sounds like any ordinary mushroom trip..

Also, remember, when eating fresh mushrooms, they dry to nearly 10% of the wet weight, so fresh dosages need to be much higher, which may explain some of the diminished effects, not to mention that they may have started to degrade somewhat from the mold and improper storage..

If SWIY really wants to save some fresh shrooms for a few days or so, they can be put into the fridge, where they'll keep similar to some vegetables.. If they start to turn black, that means they are rotting, and are probably not a good idea to eat...

Better luck next time!!

Re: mold question

Crookedeye has a good point, SWIY would not believe just how much
smaller those mushies get when they dry out until SWIY sees it... it's sad
