Poppies from the florist. Help Needed Please
SWIM has recently found a local florist selling dried poppy heads (pods). SWIM wonders what the chances would be that these are of a psychoactive variety? SWIM is aware that there are many different poppies and this perticular store does not name them, they sell by sizes and colours (Which may vary.)
Any tips/suggestions on what to ask or look for??? Thanks very much for your time. J Last edited by doppey; 10-11-2006 at 01:10. |

Re: Poppies from the florist. Help Needed Please
SWIY's best bet might be to google some images of dried papaver somniferum poppies and look for those. They're the psychoactive kind. Sorry this isnt a lengthier response but SWIM's gotta take off. Maybe someone else can be of more help?

Re: Poppies from the florist. Help Needed Please
FTSL, Thank you very much for your quick and timely response. SWIM is fully aware of the avalibility of such items on the internet but prefers to deal with a store. The reason he asks is he had read posts from other users about pods being avalible at florists.
The main question is this. Is it commonplace to sell dried opium poppy pods at florists or do they generanally stock random poppies? (Are other pods even dried for decoration?.) SWIM has searched long and hard to on avail (He's nevery lazy about these things) and he really hopes someone in the industry or with more experience in these matters can point him in the right directions. Thanks again DF, your always here for me and ill always be here for you, J |

Re: Poppies from the florist. Help Needed Please
Generally SWIM thinks the stores usually stock p. somniferum, he's never heard of anyone drying a different species of poppy to sell. However, this does not mean that nobody does it, perhaps SWIM's ears only perk up when p. somniferum is mentioned.
The reason SWIM mentioned the internet is that perhaps they have pictures SWIY could print out and go off of when he goes into the store, he could compare and see if they seem to be the same species. Keep in mind there are a few different strains of p. somniferum itself, so they may vary in appearance. SWIM did not think that many florists still stocked any dried pods whatsoever, but if they do, then SWIY got lucky since theres a pretty decent chance its P. somniferum. |

Swim recently ordered 50 pods w/stems&seeds [Sources and prices discussion are not allowed outside the sourcces forums. Read the rules.] They were said to be P. Somniferum, he found this to be true later while brewing. The only trouble (besides price) at a florist is the fact they may have some type of unknown preservative coating which is highly unrecommended for consumption. (Cat,Dog,Hampster... ect... ect...) If no coating exists and the price is reasonable, Swim reccommends Swidoppey go out and get you some... JS - Last edited by Alfa; 10-11-2006 at 12:58. |

Re: Poppies from the florist. Help Needed Please
Swimcan't wait for next season as swim has just aquired 1000 poppy seeds and intends to find a nice secluded spot a plant away, hopefully this will provide swim with a nice little return next summer if all goes well.
