Red Hot Chili Peppers!

swim baught tickets like 8 months ago and is finally going on friday! swim is real excited and wanted to tell somebody. swim is disappointed though because the two green incredibles (exclamation points) he planned on taking were flushed down the toilet when two cops were trying to open his door a few nights ago. swim is pissed but is still pumped as hell to see his favorite band ever. has swiy else seen them live? if so swim wants to hear about it.

p.s. i am going to change my avatar after the concert

The Mars Volta are amazing, I am suprised you didnt like them, I saw them at Brixton Academy last year and it was the most powerful, intense and beautiful performance i had ever had the privelage of witnessing. I still dream about those high pitched vocals and the music inspired by opiates, its in my soul forever.

As for the red hot chilli peppers, fair play they are legends but I cant help finding their last couple of albums very similar sounding which is a shame. Did they play alot of their old songs?

Alot of swim's friends went to the concert and apparently the Mars Volta weren't really on it that night. Even people who liked them thought it wasn't that great. Dunno what happened there.

it was about 50/50 old songs and new songs. swim kind of agrees with you about the last few albums sounding the same. swim honestly wasn't a big fan of stadium arcadium at first because of that reason, but the more he listened to it, the more he realized how different the songs actually are. it really didn't start to grow on him until about the third time he listened to the album.

as for the mars volta, they played with the arena about 30% full. it's hard to have a powerful performance when the audience isn't really into it. maybe if they were the headliners and there were more true mars volta fans there it would have been different. swim also understood about 12 words they said during their performance, if that.

Re: Red Hot Chili Peppers!

Californication is the best IMO. BSSM is great too, but I was too young to remember.

When californication was released I fell in love with their sound. That's when I really met the peppers, so I don't think I'm going to like any other record better than californication.

For me by the way is also a great album, but Stadium Arcadium is only an OK album. None of its songs touched me as other records did.

I envy you. I f*ing like the peppers. It is the best band right now, and the only good music you can find nowadays. Frusciante is a f*ing genius, one of the best guitar freaks ever IMO. Where was the concert exactly??

yes swim didn't mention frusciante. he is a god right along with keidis and flea. before almost every song frusciante and flea would freestyle together then keidis would come out of nowhere and they'd start jammin a tune. and swim can't even describe the feeling he got when they encored under the bridge. swim thinks a tear ran down his face.

the concert was at the palace in auburn hills, mi. not the best place for a concert but they rocked the house.

Re: Red Hot Chili Peppers!

LOVE the Chili Peppers. Lollapallooza this past summer they played and guess who was front row?? Swim!! Swim thought she could have died... literally. She could hardly breath and she is pretty small and was among mostly just a big group of taller, bigger guys. She had to push her way through the crowd to get there- through Queens of Stoneage and another show- but it was so worth it!! Though her dress broke, she lost a shoe, and she was entirely drenched in sweat that was 90% other people's. Chili Peppers were amazing. Swim agrees w/you julian- the more she listened to Stadium Arcadium, they more it grew on her. Some of the songs are great. They also played about a 50-50 show at Lollapalooza. Oh yeah, and swim also loves the Mars Volta and REALLY wants to see them play in Tokyo this month, but doesn't think she'll be able to... (she's in Japan, but more than a couple hours outside of Tokyo)

Re: Red Hot Chili Peppers!

I have seen the chilli's live also. Back two or three years ago and SWIM did it while on shrooms get show. Support that day included Pixies.

I really used to love Chill's but I am not as big into them as I was before for me they went down the road many other bands did (metallica, pearl jam to name two) They crossed over to more alternative/mainstream music which I have no problem with but for me it's seems strange to go from mothers milk or blood sugar, sex, magick to their latest albums which just lack something, thats just my opinion of course,

Obviously it's part of them growing up and becoming more popular. I guess I lost interest once bands like Chilli's, Metallica and Pearl Jam grew out of their teenage angst/rebellious twenties to more mature adults. There music for me lost the hook or whatever that attracted me. Chilli's were great live though don't get me wrong and I would go to see them again

Re: Red Hot Chili Peppers!

Never seen the chilli peppers live, but I definitley want to someday, even though i don't like them nearly as much as I used to. I hear their playing at Coachella this year, alongside a newly reunited Rage Against the machine and Bjork (among other great artists), wish I had the money and the means to get to Cali...

Re: Red Hot Chili Peppers!

How much did SWIY's tickets cost? SWIM heard that another SWIY's tickets cost ~$70-90. SWIM thinks this is too expensive for a show; most good festivals that last a few days are only twice the cost. SWIM is glad SWIY enjoyed the experience though.

swim has seen the chillies live twice, they are an unreal live band. its a pity they have sold out and started releasing pop material to appeal to the masses. who listens to old school chillies when they played righteous funk.... absoloutly unbelieveable tripping music !!!

swim loves their old stuff too; freaky stylie is one of his favorite albums by the chilis. it's crazy music, like 3 or 4 different genres in one. very unique. swim does like their new stuff alot though even though it's considered mainstream and what not. swim doesn't believe they 'sold out' though, he thinks their music has just evolved over time. to whoever asked about the ticket price: they were $65 a pop after transaction fees and all that extra bullshit ticketmaster fucks its customers over with.

speaking of concerts, swim is going to see INCUBUS on friday in detroit. anyone else going? incubus is a VERY close second to the chilis in swim's opinion. swim has never seen them live but hears they are amazing in concert.

The RHCP were SWIM's first concert, way back in 8th grade. He insists he caught a buzz during the STP set.
